I thought of that scene last night as my granddaughter was telling me how she'd had her mouth washed out with soap earlier in the day. She said something naughty to moms apparently.

My parents never went the soap route, more the beat my ass route

Did your parents make you go get the belt/paddle/switch or whatever they used on you? Thats what always got me. It was bad enough we were going to get a asswhoopin', but we had to get it to boot!

No, my dad was sure to bring his own belt. Then he'd put me over his knee, at which point I would begin crying, at which point he would say "Stop crying or I'll give you something to cry about!" at which point I'd stop crying, at which point he'd strike me on the bare ass with the belt, at which point I'd begin crying again.

What's worse is, my mother almost never struck us. My father was a submariner so he'd be gone for 3-6 month stretches. If I did something bad while he was out to sea my mother would tell him about it when he returned. So I think on more than one occasion I would get the belt for something I'd done several months prior.
