You had to sand the panels? Dont the liners adhere with velcro?

I have factory liners and I think they are adhered with velcro. One was kinda hanging when i bought and i just pressed it back in.

How do your liners hold...just curious
The Hothead manual recommends sanding and acetone wiping so there is no dust or oil. They did include a piece of sand paper, but I have to supply my own acetone ($5 from Lowe's).

The panels are held up by 3M industrial tapes, which is very strong IMO, but we shall see...

The temperature is also important for those Velcros and tapes, it is ideal when apply them above 80 degree so the adhesives can fully bond to the panels...

My DIY Roof rack:

plus the grid and garage door tracks in the pictures of this post of mine:

makes this: version 1.0 of my sliding back to open OEM soft top/take out Freedom Panels/open Bestop Sunrider product roof system:

Jeep Wrangler JL What did you do TO your Jeep JL today? IMG_2755.JPG

Much work needs to be done like (powder coating it, and) removing sections of the grid or facilitating their sliding out of the way to open Freedom Panels or accommodate the height of an OEM soft top in Sunrider position, including possibly raising the grid's height (and maybe not removing grid sections) above the vertical space that the soft top in Sunrider position takes up....or even accommodating the Bestop Sunrider product.

(Sunrider position of the OEM soft top and the Bestop Sundrider product are 2 separate things. The word "Sunrider" has 2 meanings here.)

Right now the uninterrupted sections of the grid run the length of the vehicle, while small lengths run driver's to passenger's side. I want to change that 90 degrees to facilitate open grid space near the front of the grid if I wish and/or the moving what would then be the full length crossmembers forward or back (those cross members are now 4 separate pieces.)

Anyway, the idea is you slide this bad boy back, gear on it or not partially, open your OEM soft top to Sunrider position, and then slide the grid back. I'll probably incorporate vertical supports to stabilize even partial cantilevering.

Stop pins are located in front and back on both sides of the track to prevent the grid from falling out backwardly or forwardly.

LOD Offroad @lodoffroad , I assure you the worst this DIY can do is enhance sales of your soon to be released JL product, of which mine is a mere "Rube Goldberg" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rube_Goldberg#/media/File:Rube_Goldberg's_"Self-Operating_Napkin"_(cropped).gif compared to your engineering. My current version is strapped down to the roof rack below because the garage door wheels bounce up and down in the track. Still more, cantilever mine like this, like you can (this is the JK version, the JL version is reported to slide bi-directionally to either side, therefore be less cantilevered, and likely--if this is even possible--MORE stable) even without weight on it

and unlike you I'd have a "hot mess" on my hands.

In case you want to see how its done correctly:

(I would have bought the LOD if available when I needed a roof rack back in summer.)

was an ‘18 Rubicon Mojito! now a boring Mazda
Felt like it drove a little better too after I put mine on, wider stance I guess helps(disclosure: have since taken them off)
why have you removed them?

Well, I put on diff mopar wheels that stuck out the same as stock with spidertrax spacer.

Also, was worried about bearing or any mechanics damage. 1.75" is quite a bit of spacing without centering the wheel over its midpoint(make sense?).

Anyway, am once again thinking of putting back on as the stance with news wheels will look very good(yes, is for looks not because I need them)

If anyone cares to chime in on how and why 1.75" spidertrax spacers wont due any premature wear on the mechanics I may put them back on.

Well this is very impressive, even for a home brew! You are stumbling upon the same issues/revelations/progressions and options as we have. Hopefully soon we'll be able to show a functional demo before you steal all our thunder! ;) Keep up the good work! You might be on to something with the power retractable top and "ahem" roof rack!

I urge people to wait for the @lodoffroad rack, if they can, which when it's ready will be "freakin' awesome" (that's a technical term, see "the bomb.") ;)

I pursued this as a discovery build needing the CeeTeeVee (that's my rig, the CTV, the College Transportation Vehicle) to have a rack because @lodoffroad was perfecting their wares, and will STILL likely get @lodoaffroad's product when it comes to market IMSWLM.

;)I propose that IMSWLM be used this day forth to mean "if my spouse will let me."

Dan...

* Did you buy your rig with the Gorilla glass, if even available when you bought?

* If so did Safelight replace it with Gorilla glass?

….I'm thinking if/when my windshield cracks to pay the differential for the Gorilla glass on my zero deductible window glass replacement. In other words let the insurance company pick up the cost to bring the windshield back to that on the purchase sticker, (Gorilla glass was not available when I bought) and I'll pay for the upgrade to "Gorilla."

Thanks.

I know Gorilla glass was released for the JK but I don't think Gorilla glass is available for the JL yet?

I read somewhere it's supposed to be available sometime early 2019

I hear you Tom.

I'm confused too:

Gorilla glass is already here (or maybe the tech forgot it was only on the JK):

https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/cracked-windshield-club.5935/page-15#post-425080

More recently, gorilla glass is not available (now/yet) as you state.

Gorilla Glass won't be available until May or June, according to Mopar. If I break another and it is anywhere close to that timeframe, I'll hold out for it. Safelite replaced it both times with the OEM Acoustic Glass.

Aside from the windshield, here's the other thing I did to the JL today. Sunrider for Hard Top! The quality and fit of this thing appears to be outstanding!
