My issue is that I wanted the steel bumper pair - I have the plastic Sport ones because steel ones are only available on the Rubicons. The front bumper offers aesthetic, a winch mounting point, and a grille guard. The rear bumper is not available anywhere that I can tell, and offers, based on their experience, not a whole lot of protection. I have yet to see any bumpers other than the Mopar ones that I like, front or rear.

I am curious as to whether a steel Mopar rear bumper is worth the cost based on how much trouble it gave them. I.e. how would a plastic one have fared in those conditions?

I'm willing to say the plastic covered bumper would have shattered, lol.

I think I recall from one of teh [Banned Site] youtube videos is that there's a bolt that protrudes somewhere behind the rear bumper that is what makes contact with the body. I'm thinking of cutting it off with a die grinder/cutting wheel. But as you point out, I doubt I'll ever do the hardcore rock crawling that Kevin and his girly do. It just doesn't look like fun to me.

They're using that Jeep for what they bought it for all right lol. I'm willing to bet they're putting their Jeep above and beyond 90% of users, so I just disagree with the term "Sucks"

Sure they've found a bumper that works better for their uses and that's good for them.

But imagine if I walk into your apartment with a sledge hammer and took a good swing at your coffee table, and then telling you it sucked because it broke...

A coffee table conveys no expectation that it will resist a sledgehammer. A steel bumper suggests that it can take a fair amount of abuse.

lol, my point was about overwhelming force.

Kevlar body armor worn by a police officer vs a .500 Magnum would be a better example.
