Uh, not sleeping, I was on watch in the field when it was that cold. 65-70 in December was unheard of but it did get tolerable when the sun was out. There were times I would reach for a door handle in the shade and almost freeze my hand off lol.
63 is the average high for 29 palms in December.

But here's the rub, I don't wanna be caught in 29 Palms in July. :)
lol, that I agree with you! You could get sunburn just walking to the car.

But of all the places I should have owned a 4x4, that was it. Dirt trails and overland driving as far as the eye could see!

I think its the overall temperature range through the day that got to me. Cold and windy at night and early morning, and then not bad during the height of the afternoon but as soon as the sun starts to dip you'd better layer up again. I'm just glad that when I was actually living there I had a nice place to live with a good HVAC!

Yeah, I've spent a lot of time in the Borrego Springs area (not too far from 29 Palms). Those 40-45 degree temperature swings...you have to be prepared for.

I had -20°F windchills one night at school. First time ever that my WJ needed two attempts to turn over in the following morning. She also whistled like a tea kettle until she warmed up. I think the mercury was right around 0°F or just under it when I went out to start her up.
:cwl: one night....
