Rev match the engine? Purpose please. I'm confused.

Rev match - get the engine RPMs close to what they would be at in the gear you are shifting to. Prevents that jerking feeling when downshifting.

Clutch in, pull out of gear, hit gas to increase engine RPM, shift into lower gear, clutch out.
