Day 6: Terlingua to Panther Junction Visitor Center in the park, up US 385 to Marathon, then US 90 through Del Rio (Home of my birthplace at Laughlin AFB) up to San Antonio.

Bottom line: This is a bucket list trip for anyone serious about seeing this nation's beauty. The vast vistas, sunsets/sunrises, starfield, ever-changing geological formations, massive variety of fauna due to the unique nature/location of the park, etc, makes it a true destination for all who love America. Highly recommended.
I forget how close Big Bend is and how awesomely beautiful it is. I've been going there since I was a rug rat, but it's been at least 20 years since I've been out that way. Your great share rekindled my interest in another trip out there, but this time, with my wife in tow.

Another area to consider on a Big Bend trip lies just north; the Davis Mountains. Another fantastic destination to add to your Big Bend trip agenda if you have the time.

Thanks for the awesome share!

Great to see the pics and the story with them. It's been about a decade and a half since I last went, and I don't know why. It's not that far away. I just gotta load up the Jeep or the GS and go.

Concur! The Davis Mountains, including the McDonald Observatory, are on our list for a future trip. We've been through there before, but never spent any real time, as we were always transiting from east to west or vice versa. We'll get there. We've seen a lot of this great nation, but so much more to explore!

Yes! There is so much to do out thre. I visited the McDonald Observatory when I was in my 20's. Time to get back one last time and more fully appreciate West Texas for what it has to offer! We don't always have to plan trips to Arizona, Colorado or Utah to ride some good trails and appreciate the natural beauty all around us. Your share had a lot of impact on me, and I suspect others as well. Thanks.

Great read. I’m moving to San Antonio shortly and will use this as a reference.

Dang! I didn't even know there was a Prada in Marfa. I will not make that mistake again. And the wife will love me for scheduling that one into our itinerary on the next trip. There is nothing in the world quite like going to Prada in Marfa!

i'm glad you submitted photographical evidence that there is even a Prada in Marfa. Otherwise, I would have called you out on it. But that's your Punk'n Jeep in front of Prada, for sure. Ha ha.

It's a bit understaffed, and under stocked...

Yep, my wife tried to phone order something from them; no response at all. They have terrible "customer service."

It's been a long time since I was in Marfa. Looks like their attempt to go "cosmopolitan" has finally failed. Then again, Marfa will always be, well, Marfa. No "cosmopolitan" needed!

Nice shots of Christmas Mountains, looks like the Old Maverick Rd trailhead was a great choice. How's the road holdup on Old Maverick, I know some of those washouts can be nasty after heavy rainfall.

Awesome! I've been wanting to do that for years. Maybe later this year or early next year.
