2026 4xe or not?

I hear ya on the infrastructure, but for me and others that use this as a secondary vehicle with charging at home, it is attractive. Running errands, mostly city driving close to home, allows for using the electric only and then charging it at home. Don't get why they aren't releasing more of these for 2026 if they are releasing a new transmission. I love the fact that you can run it on electric or gas; best of both worlds IMO.

How are 26 Wranglers popping up on dealer lots now but you can’t even spec one on the website!? Come on Jeep. Do better!

Seriously. It’s wild that the 2026s are already on lots but still not on the website. I checked, and when the 2024s and 2025s came out, you were able to build, price, and search them well before the last week of October. Not sure what the holdup is, but I need this to open up soon!

The 4xe has ... inconsistent build quality. Which all makes have, and all models. But Jeep, and specifically the 4xe, suffer from this more than most.

That said, though, it is a really nifty vehicle if you get a decent one. I like my 24 a lot.

If more than half of your driving is within 10 miles of your house, or 20 if you can charge at work, then the PHEV aspect will be particularly useful to you. I get between 2/3 and 3/4 or my nornal mileage as electric, which is quite nice.

Some hate for the risks of build quality is appropriate, but don't let that put you off completely.

And if you do look at pre-2026 ones, since they're available now, stay with the 24/25 ones; the computer system on those years is definitely an improvement.

This was a big story a couple months ago, pretty sure it was just a rumor that started not sure its actually real. For them to actually do it they would need to put more R&D past the transmission manufacturer, and take away even more sales from the '24 '25. Maybe something to look forward to with the JM. The other thing to is the government just stopped the EPAs average fuel economy rating for manufacturers so its possible Jeep may not push out as many 4xe because they don't have to offset the "inefficient" ICE motors.

Got it, I'm looking for a used '24 but wanted to see if this '26 change in transmission is worth it. But odd you can't even price it or build it and dealers have no information either.

The 4xe is continuing in 2026, they're on the build schedules for the plant, but it says gen 1 still.

I love our 4xe, but it's was never designed as gas saving hybrid. The 4xe is a performance hybrid, the electric power train is a power adder first and foremost and in that regard it's great. The spec'd numbers say 370hp and 470ftlbs of torque, but actual perf numbers have it probably closer to 400-420hp when full tilt.

We have 37s on ours on stock 3.73 gears and it will just run away from our gladiator like the gladiator was standing still. Charging it each night we also still get 20mpg with a 60 mile round trip commute so it's also a solid 5 mpg above what the gladiator gets on 37s.

Lots of people hate on it, but when you get a good one it's objectively the best power train by far jeep offers as you get 95% of the 392 performance for less money and 30% better fuel economy if you can charge it over night.

I do agree. Even though I have the Trailhawk 4XE at the moment it really does perform well. My work,errands & gym etc. are all close. Ill even get 2 days out of a full charge. I have not gotten gas in like 3 months prob.

That's exactly my scenario and it seems like a perfect fit. I don't get why people hate on the 4xe...seems like a no brainer.

How does the electric range last with 37s? I'm assuming it chews up the battery faster? And are you supposed to re-gear when you go with 35+ tires?

Electric range goes pretty quick, instead of 20-22 stock we're more like 15-16. We really don't care though as this was bought for performance reasons first and foremost and any extra mpg is icing on the cake. Since the hybrid battery never goes flat (except in extreme cases like towing up a mountain or something) the power is always available which is what we really want.

You only really need to regear if you are unhappy with low end torque in 1st and 2nd gear or your transmission can't use all the gears because it doesn't have power to use 7th and 8th. Neither of those things happen with 3.73s and 37s. As I said it still absolutely flies off the line compared to our gladiator which is also on 37s and 5.13s and it still uses all 8 speeds routinely. If this was a high speed highway only car it would be different but most of the commute is city traffic and streets 55 and under so it uses all 8 gears.

The 4xe hate comes from various angles, people that just hate everything EVs, people that understandably don't want to subsidize other people vehicle, people that like the 4xe, but hate the range, then there are the people that don't understand what PHEVs are, and make up a lot of , 5 years down the road they still make up the same

PHEVs are here to stay because they make a lot of sense for quite a bit of people, PHEVs serve two customer base, people after power, and people after electric only driving.

Lack of subsidies affects Jeep a lot more than the other manufacturers, simply because a lot of people leased the 4xe because they can drive a $60,000 Wrangler for $400 a month, that game is over, subsidies shaved at least $200 off monthly lease payments.

Jeep most likely have a serious pricing problem with the 4xe, with the subsidies gone, they probably trying to figure out what to do, there is also no benefit for corporate America(rental/leasing) to buy the 4xe anymore for green washing, and that's a huge chunk of sales.

If Jeep stop making the 4xe Wrangler, potential customers will flee to other manufacturers that make PHEVs, and those manufacturers also make better vehicles than Jeep for the money, so it wouldn't take much for Jeep to lose business.

Ultimately the EV mandates will be back in a few short years, and Jeep can't afford to play catch-up again.

As for public charging, there really isn't any need for it, it's expensive, and prone to vandalism, and failure, that is why companies aren't putting them in.

People don't even know how to return the charger back to the holster, it lays on the ground, people drive over them and break them etc.

2024 they had on the lots in like august of 2023. 2025, though, was closer to what it is like now. I think it was about now, maybe even into nov before people started seeing them.
