Let's do a little comparison.
Inner circle of Raleigh, according to Google right now.

1758735754531-gq.webp

Same scale for Dallas

1758735868117-k6.webp

And now the hellscape that is the inner city of Houston.
1758735993321-v5.webp

Yeah, that area inside the 610 is the dark place.

Even I know we don't go there. Inside 610 loop is bus or uber area.

You weren't in the far left lane, but you weren't in the right lane either, not passing people. :)
That’s…that’s just called traffic
The far right lane sucks cause it turns into exit only lanes 80% of the time that you just have to move over again anyway. I’d rather avoid it altogether. I’m not driving in the far right lane.
The far left lane is fine, but I didn’t know how fast you were willing to drive.

Every time I do get quick, people behind me lag so then I adjust speed til I find a speed they can keep up, too much convoy driving.
It’s why I prefer to drive behind people cause 90% of the time someone says some dumb shit after. I will stay caught up regardless of traffic laws, I don’t care how fast we go. But everyone else always seems to have a problem when doing the following.

lol no
It’s just 25 where people lose their minds for some reason.
North of the Lincoln exit where the speed limit is 65 everyone wants to go 80.
South of the Lincoln exit where the speed limit is 75 everyone wants to do 50.
470? Great.
85? Great.
225? An affront to mankind.
70? shitty east of 470 and anytime there’s a remote chance of skiing to the west.
86? amazing.

Exactly! Now teach all the vacant eyed, drooling, mouth breathers here that if you aren't exiting, get out of the far right lane. And it's Texas, so if you aren't going 85+, stay out of the far left lane.

Exits are where 90% of our traffic comes from. People camp in the right lane then panic when it becomes an exit, and then fight the people in the middle lane trying to get to the right lane to exit the highway. Everyone does a pisspoor job of speed matching cause they couldn’t preplan their exit LIKE IT ISN’T THE SAME COMMUTE AS THE OTHER 400 TIMES THEY MADE THAT DRIVE

The other 9% is a mix of people slowing down cause of a cop ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY or an accident ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY

1% is like, holy fuck there was an actual accident for once

It’s so fuckin aggravating.
Then sometimes it’s a double merge where the lane is an onramp lane and off ramp lane at the same time.

Like just…stay outta the right lane

A big problem here is dummies getting on from a ramp thinking that they have the right of way and expecting everyone else to move out of the way for them. Sure, if there's plenty of space and i'm not about to get off, i'll be courteous and move over. But I don't have to.

At least our right lane situation is easier. Exits are generally an additional lane that'll grow off and everyone wants to be in the left lane so bad that if you manage your speed in the right lane you really don't even barely have to deal with onramp merging issues.

Yeah we’ll have people actively on the highway doing highway speeds slow down to let some weasel onto the highway.

Just fuckin drive and let them figure it out. It’s their job to speedmatch

That's what I like about adaptive cruise. Get in behind the leader, set the speed higher than they go, and it keeps a reasonable distance behind them regardless of what they are doing.

Sometimes I think that civil engineers design poor road and intersection layouts on purpose because they're mad that they chose civil engineering instead of something interesting.
