It's wild to me that people decide mid-drive to change top state. Like, assess at the beginning before the drive. Change state. Go.

Kids don't like the wind. So drop kids off with top closed, open top for all non-highway driving, close it for the highway section, reopen it when I get off the highway. Not hard to understand...

Like I get closed for kids, change state before drive elsewhere, go elsewhere. The highway one confuses me. Like... why?

4 lanes each way, surrounded by tons of bro trucks and 18 wheelers. The road noise is ear piercing. To the point that if I drive home from work with windows and top down, my ears ring more than from a concert.

My trick there is just drive slow enough they don't spend time near you lol. Nobody wants to sit behind the dude doing the speed limit.

Fuck it, I am jumping on a plane to Thailand for the winter. I hate Michigan winters. We will get back at the end of February, but then only home for a week before heading south for a cruise out of Florida and then taking the Jeep and camper to the South West. So we should only see about one week of shit Michigan weather. The weather should be better when we get back in June.
Travel well!

Them going past me is just as bad. I love open air driving, but not going to risk hearing damage for it.

You do you I guess. Just never felt any of that was overly hard on my ears.

I get it after a few hours on the road, or if I go through a tunnel. Luckily, I have ear foams floating all over the Jeep from the range, so I'll throw them in if it starts to get annoying.

Do you drive an hour each way on a 8 lane highway every day? Not everywhere is BFE NC. Not sure why everyone should do things the same.

I mean, I used to before the 'vid moved everyone to WFH and I latched onto that. I40 into and out of RTP every day, solid chunk of it was 6-10 lanes depending on where you were at and the dropping of lanes. Somewhere around an hour on average each way. JK had half doors and I spent most summer days with the uppers sitting in the workshop. Pretty sure that Jeep was louder than the tractor trailers or bro trucks though lol. I had the Magnaflow crawler exhaust on the 3.6 and that was a loud combo. Nice and high clearance, but with the ratios in the 5 speed auto and 4.88s, plus all the hills in central NC, I spent a lot of time in 4th gear.

Here's what I'm dealing with. I walked over to the site at 0745 and my clothes look like I swam here.

Its not the exhaust/engine noise. Its the high frequency road/tire noise of 50k+ vehicles going 80mph with nothing to buffer or absorb the sound. No trees or anything close to the highway. It's also concrete, where I think you may have asphalt? Not sure if that makes a difference or not.
