When we have to resort to comparing on-road manners of the wrangler to box trucks, you know it's probably not great....
My wranglers at least as good as the Renegade it replaced and before that I had a Yukon Denali and honestly I mean other than the fact that you can tell it has a solid front axle it doesn't really ride rougher. I'm not sure how people think wranglers ride poorly. Sure the steering wheel might have a little more shimmy but that's about it honestly.

A Yukon Denali (not XL) only has a 2" longer wheelbase than a JL Wrangler Unlimited. The JL has about a 4" shorter track width.

The main difference is the Yukons have independent front suspension, and as of 2021, they have independent rear suspension too. The Yukon rides a lot better than a Wrangler.

Solid axles transfer motion across the whole axle, and it creates a lot of sideways motion up in the body which is felt by passengers. That's what part of the "rough" ride is in a solid axle vehicle.

It's not that Wranglers ride poorly. They ride very well for a body-on-frame vehicle with two solid axles. But no, they do not utilize independent suspension like many other SUV's and car-based vehicles designed specifically for passenger comfort and road handling do.

Your regurgitating facts that I'm already aware of is there a point to this? These facts are already demonstratively true but they don't change anything I said.

Unless you're talking about, say, a 1996 Yukon, you sound like you have no idea what you're talking about. A Yukon definitely rides differently than a JL Wrangler for all the reasons I stated above.

And by the way, your steering wheel shouldn't "shimmy" in either vehicle.

I honestly don't know where to start with you, you don't have a clue. The mere suggestion that you know more than I do about cars in general Is laughable at best. And the fact that you're a condescending little bitch about it just really is the icing on the cake.

Welcome to my ignore list.

Welcome to the fun house folks. Great thing about threads like this, reading all the opinions about an opinion. I even warned people that I'm a prick. Someone who others should generally not value the opinion of. But it sure ruffled some feathers. We've had everything from "my money my choice, F U" I'm paraphrasing here. Defensive posts about road conditions, and winter driving, to equating this point to the same as corvette or Porsche owners who don't "race" their sports cars, or haul anything in a truck.

Which I'm glad someone brought up. It's exactly like that! But here's the point you are missing that corvette and even the Porsche are sports cars, designed to be driven in a sporty manner. They aren't race cars designed for the track. Those exist as well, but let's not get too sidetracked. So yeah, if someone buys a sports car, and doesn't drive it in a sporty manner, I'd definitely say they bought the wrong vehicle and make fun of them. Just imagine the absurdity of someone paying for a tuned car with gobs of power, incredibly tight suspension with massive sway bars, low profile tires with stiff sidewalls, and an aggressive compound tire that grips like crazy, and then uses it only as a commuter. Never breaks the speed limit, doesn't plan trips with scenic curvy roads, and never revs the engine above 4k. That would be pretty stupid. Or worse, to then complain about how rough the ride is when driving it on the road. Or how fast the tires wear, or gas mileage... You see where I'm going with this by now. Those are all asinine things to do. Same rules apply to folks who buy a truck and are afraid of scratching the bed. If you aren't going to do truck stuff, then what's the point?

But yet those same kind of things happen here and most don't even bat an eye.

"It's my money, I'll spend it however I want!" You are absolutely right. I am not making your payment or any decisions in your house. Thank God for that. But I am definitely going to talk shit and judge you. You don't have to be okay with it.

"In the American culture we express ourselves with what we drive." Don't recall if this one was in here, but it's been said before. Driving a Wrangler doesn't make you cool. In fact it's become something that has been done so much, that people are making fun of Wrangler owners that are doing it just for the attention. The Donut group instagram is hilarious with all the Jeep hate. The angry grills, ducks, goofy tall lifts, 20s there is just too much ammunition for people to mock.

I know that a lot of people are going to be cranky after this thread. I'm okay with that.

Just remember, I did warn you in the very beginning.
I’m prone to ramble on, apparently rudderless, after a few whiskeys too. ;)

One of these days just for fun I'll post the list of people I've ignored. Some fairly well known members at that. Problem is they think that because they have a lot of post or one or two useful post that everything they say is gospel all of a sudden. Just because the sun shines on a dogs ass every once in a while doesn't mean those assholes need to be seen.

I've heard the reason Wranglers have some play in the steering is you wouldnt want the wheel to jolt in your hand while seriously off roading.

I try to keep about a 50/50 ratio of helpful posts to dumbass posts. I’m afraid my helpful post count may be falling behind lately.
