Just ask @cosine he knows!
Having owned Mickey Thompsons in the past and currently running their ATZs in a 315/70/17 on our JL, I won't own another brand of tire on this Jeep as long as they're available and continue to be made in the USA. Can't do better than the Baja Boss AT if you're wanting an AT-based tread, and yeah, they're heavy but when aired down you're essentially getting a 15" + treadwidth w/ the beefy sidebiters flattened out. Those Falkens look to be a great new tire, too bad they're not made here though :( And my other tire would be STT Pros if I needed that extra "everything" lol.

My understanding is the MT BB A/Ts are great, but are louder than the A/T3Ws, and regarding wet/dry performance, there are tradeoffs too. I wish everything was black and white but that rarely is the case.

They're quite similar, both have deeper tread than other AT-based tires and good sidewall biters, I believe the Mickeys extra weight comes from a bit thicker sidewall biters. Performance on & off road should be about the same and IIRC the tread spacing is just a bit more w/ the Mickeys which could translate to a bit more road noise. If I were doing a lot of air-down off roading I'd choose the Mickeys and made in the USA would sway me their way too.

Dagnabbit, I just upgraded my Wrangler to 37” AT3Ws. Which are outstanding, BTW.

Maybe I’ll put AT4Ws on my Rivian. I’m not very happy with the Pirelli ATs that come with it.

@Discount Tire when are the 315/70R17s going to be possible to order?
That size has not been officially announced yet, but I'm hoping to see movement on them soon. I'm guessing 60 days out? Maybe.

@Discount Tire

It's on their size/specification sheet and on your website, so I thought it was official. It's the only near-35" version that's load range C, which is why I'm interested in it:

@ormandj

I talked to a Falken rep on Friday, and I was told there is production scheduled, and to expect it to be out in 45-60 days, but that was a "guestimate" :)

I would probably second that. I have MT Baja ATZ P3s. They are incredibly resilient, have superb grab off-road, and have been 100% solid for coming up 40K. That said, from the beginning they definitely were a bit louder, but as they've aged they've gotten much louder (as do most tires) on the road. A totally mixed bag. In the first few weeks I had them I got a 3 1/2" nail right in one and it didn't even penetrate the air chamber--just pulled it out with pliers. They are super tough, and even with the mileage I have on them I still have an amazing amount of tred depth left. More than likely it's due to the "E" load rating, which is also part of the noise issue--a trade-off. From a performance standpoint, though, I cannot fault them a bit. On- and off-road has been excellent, particularly with water (like this morning when I hit a massive pool of dammed-up water on a freeway during major rain here in San Antonio). Positive reviews for everything but an increase in noise.

I’m in SAT, too, and can attest the A/T3Ws handled the same pool just fine! I’m hoping the A/T4Ws are even better.

For some reason, the A/T4Ws have fewer, and different, sipes, making wet performance the one area where the A/T3Ws perform better.
I've used this site before, and I'd take it with a grain of salt. The person running it seems to know what he's talking about, but a lot of the analysis is somewhat subjective. He mentions lap testing at various points, but I can't find any reference to the actual data nor are there details on the objective performance differences. I submitted a comment asking for the actual data, we'll see if he responds.

Additionally, he states Falken is not replacing the A/T3W, while Falken themselves told me they are. I'm also curious how he got his hands on these so quickly, unless Falken is sending him early samples. I'm not saying his data isn't real/valid, but I have more questions than I do answers after reading that, and I take everything on the internet as opinion until proven otherwise. :)

It was the first review I've seen, and his reviews generally comport with others (that aren't being paid by a manufacturer) on AT tires, just with more depth. I've had a few squirrely moment on my KO2s, so wet performance is one of the things I watch closely. I noticed the sipes were different, and more like what Toyos have. I'm certainly watching out for other reviews, but it is odd that they didn't keep the A/T3W sipes.

If FedUp will do their job and actually make my delivery today, I will start my long term review with these tires tonight. I bought the 35x12.50R18 size. They're listed at 72 lbs. That's a few lbs. more than competitors' tires but not awful.

I'll have a review vid up on my channel tonight or tomorrow. The change in rubber compound makes me nervous, but I will find out soon enough if they are as good in the weather as the A/T3W.
