Hi y'all,

The "new" (to the JL/JT platform) UConnect 5-based 12.3" system has been out on the '24 JL for a while now; what's the general consensus on reliability/stability, etc.? I know Chrysler has had UConnect 5 out for a couple years, too, but I think the software builds are platform-specific (so crashing/usability bugs in Ram, Pacifica, etc., are not necessarily applicable to the JL/JT).

It seems like UConnect 5 is based on a rather ancient version of Android (8), and I'm wondering how it compares to other manufacturer's Android Automotive offerings. Volvo's AAOS (2.13.3) is based on Android 12, but lacks a lot of customization options and still has weird bugs, crashing, stupid things like "volume controls stop working on steering wheel", etc.

Wondering how JL owners are faring after a year of it being "out in the field".

Thanks!

The main reason I waited for the 2024 was the new UConnect system. So far, in the last 6 months... flawless.

I just briefly test-drove a '24 JL Sport S, and with my limited time with UConnect 5, the screen seemed to have a little difficulty with touch for both the sales person and myself (we were both having to touch menu items multiple times). Could be an issue with the specific vehicle, though?

Edit: visited another dealer and tried out a '24 JL Sahara with the technology group (nav + Alpine audio) and the screen was just fine, super-responsive.

About 10 days in with our 2024 JLUR X and I’ve had to reboot everyday for the past 3 days to get rid of touch screen non-responsive issues, CarPlay not starting and Bluetooth connectivity issues.

Rebooting once a day isn’t a show stopper but have never had to reboot our 2022 JLUR XR 8” Uconnect 4.

Yikes. So is there any kind of pattern you've noticed on when the touch screen stops responding? (ie: right off the bat, 5-10 minutes into the drive, etc.)

So far I've had almost ZERO issues. they one time I did have an issue was when I was on a trail, and had the heater on. With the dash vent working. after about an hr on the trail, it was starting to become unresponsive. turns out with the heater blowing with the dash vents, the bottom of the screen got SUPER HOT. Turned on AC for a bit and used the floor vents for heat and no issues after that. That was about 2 months ago, and I have not had that issue again. I still use the dash vents for heat, but normally keep it split with dash and floor now.

It seems to always be in the morning right off the bat. I've had to reboot it every morning to get the touch screen working. I've tried giving it a few minutes to "adust" but the touch screen is unresponsive until I reboot.

I'm not convinced the placement of the new vents was a good idea.

I've been using it for a month now.

The navigation crashes from time to time and the traffic situation is not displayed.
Android Auto regularly loses the connection, with and without cable.
The setting for the back camera lines is not saved. The lines are gone after every start.

Of course, the dealer doesn't know what to do.

4200 miles in and I have zero complaints.
Well, ok, one. Sometimes the radio wants to show presets 7-12 (my news/talk channels) when I want to pick from 1-6 (my music favorites). But that’s a 1/2 second easy fix.
I use CarPlay a lot with Spotify and they working nicely together, same with trails Off-Road.
