We found out within the last week the ac was on and cooling the garage. And the in floor heat was on still heating the garage. So... paying for both to compete against each other!!!. No guessing how long this has been happening...:asshat::asshat:
That’s impressively shitty.

Garage is mainly electric inslab boiler. Propane overhead heater for aux heat if needed. House has air source heat pump/central air/propane heat/wood fireplace/ inslab. (This is no mn. Lived in a place with a single source furnace. When it died at -20 below F... I swore I’d at least have options next time. )
I hear ya...I had a heat pump setup in my apartment in Blacksburg, VA. Had one night where it was -5F with 70mph wind gusts and a wind chill of -25F. That apartment was so drafty, the fan in the hood over the range was spinning backwards. Heat pump kicked on...and stayed on. Thermostat leveled out around 60F inside the apartment. I slept under all my blankets that night, and cracked the faucets - I was sure that 20 year old piece of crap was going to give up the ghost. Thankfully, it didn't. :whew:

Also, my window AC just cycled off for about 10 minutes. Now it's on again :asshat:

Steam heat here is awesome btw. The system was built based on an archaic code that states that everything must stay warm with the windows open during the winter. During the Spanish Flu outbreak, it was thought that fresh air helped flush out the virus. So people had their windows open in the middle of January. City passed an ordinance shortly thereafter stating that the system must be able to provide that kind of heat. No one bothers to retrofit these old buildings, so I usually have the radiators off and the windows open, except during a blizzard or polar vortex.

Glad it made it at that temp! That’s beyond it’s recommended temp area! (In the old place, at -20F(no idea how nasty wind chill was) I took the cat, went in the sauna, and lit the wood sauna stove waiting for the repair dude. Kitty and I hung out at 75f. Electric Space heaters and regular flushing at least saved the plumbing. ) Reality is: Mother Nature always has the upper hand. Heating or cooling. So... have backups.

We still have steam inthe town I work in. They keep Attempting to eliminate it, but it’s not easy or cheap for the residents. It is great heat! But it also heats the streets and alleys where it leaks... inefficient. (But it is a byproduct of the electricity that is produced...) the “big” high school in town still has steam heat. It’s a continuous argument here.
