But seriously I’m was asking a question. why not just buy a Dynatrac front diff housing.

Do you drop in to every XR owner’s thread? Because Jesus Christ, if it’s not you, it’s someone.

1) I’d still need to get lockers for the the front and the back.
2) I’d still have to get steel knuckles
3) I’d still have to get bigger brakes
4) And and and and
5) By the time I get the front axle outfitted and get a locker and gears in the rear, I’m out $10,000 with labor
6) I still wouldn’t have tires or wheels
7) None of that shit above would be under my 8 year 125,000 mile warranty.
8) And more and more and more

If I get a project jeep I’m buying a rock crawler or a $5,000 rig with a blown motor to build from the ground up. For this one, though, that I’m high-waying around the country from badge to badge, I like the setup. If I want to take an extra measure to protect my C’s and FAD, so be it.

Right, finding someone to weld it correctly is half the battle. I'm attempting to get a quote locally.

I think it’s more like 95% of the battle. A good welder is someone that could re-fab what needs to be done to make it fit right too. Hard for me to do with the jeep in one piece.

I called Artec and they said the inner-c gussets won’t fit on the XR either. They’ll basically have to be split in half and cobbled on since the inner c’s are bigger. Made me question whether they need to be gusseted at all.

The only truss that will fit the XR is the rear. There… I have a metalcloak diff skid, which it looks like you can’t keep with a truss. Looks like the nextventure will work, but that’s another $350.

I have the gussets and rear axle truss sitting in the garage.

This stuff all started adding up, in labor, skids, etc… and it has me thinking I’d be smarter to just be chill on the throttle for 95% of the thrills and save the $$$ for a Dynatrac 44/60 combo should I ever righteously ruin my axles. I’m on 37s now and don’t think I’m interested in anything bigger. My jeep is more capable than I am.

I'm sitting on 37s and wanted some extra insurance down low. Though it would be awesome for big boy axles, i don't ever see my build going that direction. Truss and shafts is ideally where I'd like to be. Again, if labor rates and craftsmanship make it feasible.

I was gonna do spicer rears. This weekend I was talking to a guy in a 4XE… his 25th Jeep. His dealer said if he twists his rear shafts that they’ll warranty them. He has a lot more power than me. Now I’m wondering if the 4XE comes with the spicer CroMo rear shafts. It comes with the 392 style CV joints on the front. Wonder if it’s different.

Yeah, the 3.6 isn’t a speed demon for sure, but I have a sports car for that. I think I actually prefer the softer power deliver if the 3.6 to protect the driveline with the bigger tires.

I'm in the same boat as you. Had a 05 tj that I sold for this 21. I plan to have it for many years to come. It's already gave us so many unforgettable memories. To me, that's exactly why I love jeeps.
