Length of JLU

I have my Rubicon still on order, but probably need to start prepping things for its arrival. The one thing is my garage.
I see the length of the 4 door is 188.2".
Unfortunately, due to stuff in the front of my garage, I have about 185" of available room. My Liberty currently fits there (barely), but the JLU looks like it will be too long.
Just curious, in an emergency (I'm thinking hail) and I need to move it into the garage... would removing the spare tire maybe buy me a few inches so it would fit in the garage. Is the 188" measurement including the spare tire, and if so, how much overhang is there from the rear bumper?

Hey man! Always happy to try to help another Texan! I tried to get you real world numbers then realized I have aftermarket wheels and tires (spare) which will skew the measurement. The difference will be the 9.5 wide -18 mm offset wheels and 315/70r17 tire on the spare, making it longer. but with math I'm sure we can figure out the difference from stock.

I used a plumb bob and some chalk to mark the ground to get an accurate measurement. The pics below will show this.

I came up with 191 inches with my setup.

The measured 191- your available 185 = 6 inches. I'm sure my tire combo does not add 6 inched to the length so you will probably have an issue even with the factory spare.

Now we need some forum members that are knowledgeable with factory wheel/tire dominions to help find the difference for stock to be sure.

OK. There is an even 10 inches of overhang between the bumper and my spare. So that means the length of the jeep without the spare is about 181 inches which would work in an emergency as long as the tire carrier and wheel studs don't hit anything.

Was the backup camera taken into consideration? Since I do not have my JL yet, not sure if it protrudes past the rear bumper.

Its looking like I might have a chance of getting it into the garage... until Mojito Dave jumped in and brought up a valid point with the camera!

I guess I will just have to wait and see if this is going to work out. I guess if it doesn't, anyone want to buy a fitness center or two kayaks in my attempt to clear out the garage

HAHA, already have a gym membership and 2 kayaks to store. If you have garage width to spare, you could always hang them on the wall.

You're welcome though, wish I could have been more accurate really. I had the stock wheels on 2 days ago. Bummer.

Honestly, I doubt I would sell them to make room. I’m eager to get them out to the lake with the Jeep

Yeah. That’s an idea. Seems like most of the bad weather happens at night and I would rather park it and go to sleep. I would be hesitant to leaving it open all night.
I think I’m going to have to play this by ear and see what the dimensions actually are.
