Saturday parenting story.

We were finally ready for the ballet recital. After much struggle while working on crutches, daughter’s hair was in a ballet bun, and she was costumed and ready to go. We load up, head into town, running late. 5 minutes from the venue, Hubby asks daughter where her ballet shoes are. She looks up from her book, gasps, and says “I don’t know! I thought you had them! They must be on the bed!!”

Hubby takes a deep breath, decides to drop daughter and I off at the venue, then drive back home (15 min one way) to get them. I drop daughter off, tell the organizers that hubby is bringing her shoes, and go find my seat. Time ticks by.

Opening number...

Where’s hubby???

I get a text.

“The shoes were in her dance bag which was in her footwell.”

Hubby drives back, delivers shoes in time, and all is well.

Hubby = parental deep breathing zen master.

And in the headlines tonight "Daughter barely escapes certain death from panicked family on ballet outing"
