Sorry for the newbie question. Did some searching but cannot find a direct answer, hoping someone could help a brother out. So I have a pair of older KC 5” Apollo Pro”s that are going on A pillars. The harness that came with them seems like it was made for older vehicles without the aux system. After dissecting it, basically all I have left is the positive and ground wires coming from each light. So my question is can I tie in the driver side light into the passenger line and run straight to my aux wire (aux3) for instance.
Or is that too much load on that one wire? Or do I need to purchase a new harness? Please pardon my ignorance as I am very new to this. Any input is highly appreciate it. Thanks

Yes, just be sure the Aux connection (Aux 3, lets say) you are using can handle the combined Amp draw of those 2 lights....

IF, if you want to fuse protect those lights, place an inline fuse holder with the appropriate amp fuse in it, on the wire (pos) going to the Aux connection. Your Aux has fuse protection but the amp protection will be 15 amp or higher and the lamps may need say 10 amp protection.

No, no new harness needed... Just connect the two light together in regard to their pos and negatives... then run to Aux connection and to a grounding point..

Per KC these are 55W a piece and draw 4.58 amps each.
Your total draw for a pair will be ~10 amps.

Thank you so much kind sir. I was just concerned about piggybacking the lights, not to cause any electrical problems of any sort.

Those are 5A per light and therefore a pair of them will be fine off one of the 15A aux circuits.

Just hook it up to the aux wire behind the battery and you are good to go.

Thank you for adding that. So I am thinking Aux 3 will not be a issue, being it is rated for 15 Amps.

With that combined amperage then @dshark1 , would / could use Aux 3 or 4 which are both fuse protected at 15 amp...

When lights that are rated at say 10 amp first turn on they draw more then 10 amp... so you would want to fuse protect at say 15 amp.... as a 10 amp fuse would probably/ would undoubtedly blow when lights were first turned on...

Great, thank you for your reply. What I am wondering is should I run a straight connection from boat lights to the Aux or just tie the lights in together and run one positive to the aux. I hope I am making myself clear. As I am new to this as mentioned above.

Your choice on that. I tend to run from the aux a single run to the passenger a-pillar and then across under the cowl to the drivers.

But you can also "Y" off the aux feed if you like and run the drivers across the firewall and then back to a-pillar around the foam seal.

Just make sure the wire size is adequate for the choice you make, on the "Y" each leg will see 5A; on my suggestion it will see 10A until the first light and then 5A across to the other.

@dshark1

Regardless of the path you run them by ........Tie the two black wires together. Tie the 2 red wires together and then Y off of each of them to the Aux and to the ground point.

Don't ground to the battery...

OK, thank you so much for your help. So just to be clear if the driver side cable is not long enough to reach the aux wire. It is OK to tie into the passenger side cable and just run that to the aux? Basically what I’m asking is can I splice the drivers side into the passenger light cable. Then run that single positive too the Aux? Sorry for being so confused. Lol.

So your drivers light is tied into the passenger light, lines? If so ,that is what I am asking ,if it is OK to do so. to run one light of the other?
