Holy smoke........ even with the JL windshield design, I still caught a windshield full of bugs today on a road trip. I guess the joys of Wrangler ownership!

I've got a windshield full of bugs from the past week. It hit 90 degrees here in Austin, TX today. I'm not going to complain since I have seen a lot of posts over the last few days of JL owners with snow on the ground.

I think I get you Ron. You're saying that the bugs are little less attracted even to the somewhat more sloping and aerodynamic windshield of the JL.

I don't have this problem of bugs getting on my windshield (in lieu of an afternoon snack) now, that you report, given the ease in the JL of angling down this bad boy and latching it on to the hood, coupled with the equal ease of simply opening my mouth.;)

Problem solved.;)

It's a stone magnet too. I hope your windshield count stays at 1. I'm at 4, and #4 is cracked through and through.

4 windshields!? That's crazy man, I've been pretty lucky so far. I had to replace my TJ windshield but that was a while back.

I’m getting 15% less bugs due to the rake than my JK... just kidding, same bug catcher as my JK’s..

Can a self healing film help with this? I'd hate to see my brand new Jeep get socked in the face with a stone and crack :(

If this is your first Wrangler, better go ahead and prepare for the fact that the windshield is going to get cracked some. Check your non-collision deductible on your auto policy because you're going to want to have it as low as makes sense for the impact on your premium. Typically something like a $100 deductible makes sense, though you may be able to get a $0 one. Just don't unknowingly leave yourself with a $500 non-collision deductible before you catch your first crack, or you'll rue the day...

I'm not well versed in US insurance. Isn't there a windshield excess that's separate from non-collision etc? Here in the UK I pay ÂŁ35-50 to get my windshield replace (acoustic, heated). It doesn't affect my premium at all.

My apologies for hijack.

I'm sure it can be different depending on the insurance provider - all of mine have always been covered under the "non-collision" claims filings... nothing specific for glass, just the same part of the policy that would cover a tree falling on it, someone running a grocery cart into it, etc. Ultimately just make sure you discuss it with your insurance company to make sure you understand your liability for windshield glass replacement, because unless you're extremely lucky then most likely you'll need it at some point with a Wrangler
