Do our JLs have some sort of engine or tranny brake? If so, can it be tuned out?

It depends on what you mean. Are you having a hard time in low gears with it jerking you around?

One of the functions of the etorque system is short bursts of engine braking to get its rpm to an optimal point for transmission shifts. Outside of that, no.

Wait, why is your Wrangler acting like a tyranny in the first place?
Keeps him from making any land speed records on the Interstate...

Sort off. It's called compression braking and its more noticeable in a manual transmission when you downshift while going down a hill. The vehicle speed is slowed through the resistance of the engine. An automatic transmission's ability to engine brake depends on the torque converter and ECM tuning.

Beautiful, then it should be able to get tuned out then. You can't really coast with this vehicle, can ya? Or maybe it's the MT tires the willys came with... either way, that's gotta go

If you wish to eliminate the deceleration fuel shutoff then yes.

Normally it's considered a good thing because it saves your brakes. Most automatic transmissions don't provide much compression braking.

You could always just put the trans in Neutral when going down a long hill and it will coast until you put it back in Drive.

Ah okay. Deceleration fuel shutoff is entirely different on a gas engine. I've got no experience with the 3.0 so I really can't say if there's an exhaust brake or if its controllable.

The 6.7 on the other hand coasts pretty well without the exhaust brake activated.

Also wondering if it's the tires... maybe they can produce that much drag
