Got my Jeep roughly 2 years ago (I think) and had zero clue about the culture that come along with owning one, let alone the customization, off roading, history….all of…just had zero clue.

Like all things I’m into when I like something I dive in. From putting on my own lift and axles, to maintenance, to trips out to Moab I’ve just been loving it. I’ve vicariously brought my Dad with me on all my adventures, calling him, talking about the fun, sending pictures and videos of the amazing things I’ve seen and crazy experiences I’ve had off roading.

He said he always liked Jeeps and even test road one in the late 90’s but it just didn’t fit his frame.

I went to OC beach weekend in MD last year and pulled the top and doors off (we got soaked lol) and let Dad drive it everywhere…he was shocked at the difference from the 90’s Jeep to the JL. Said it was quite comfortable and he really liked it.

I invited him to come camping this weekend with my youngest and myself. Told him we could take my jeep and do a little off roading if he wanted to. He says “sure I’ll see you Friday night”

I pull up to my house and there’s a Jeep in the driveway…I figured maybe he rented one for the weekend to have some fun…NOPE my old man bought a Jeep!

Said he wanted to wheel and he wasn’t kidding! That thing still has temp tags and he was wheeling like a champ! Even did some night wheeling in some property I own in WV. He was crawling over rocks with temp tags still on….even hit the gas tank skid and transfer case skid once or twice and it didn’t even phase him…he asked if he was good and then just kept pushing…I think most folks with their brand new Jeep wouldn’t be up for that. He was and wanted more! Lol

We went and got him his first badge at Wolf Den in MD.

It was seriously such an awesome weekend. We used to ride motorcycles together but after an accident he hung it up. Him having this Jeep gives us that old commonality again.

Good stuff.

That is an awesome surprise, I'm happy for you guys! I feel like jeeping can teach a young person a lot about responsibility and what it takes to manage long term goals. The memories you create will last a lifetime, and that is priceless. Some people smirk at BOH badges, but they are just a touchstone to me. They remind me of the places I've been, the people I spent time with, and when I see them on someone else's jeep I know we've got some things in common to talk about.

So far I've got 6, and plan to get around 4 more this summer. Feel free to hit me up if you guys want to wheel PA's BOH trails. Tell your old man I said Congrats, and good show!

Cool! Yep I’ve already got the badges at AOAA… ow that Rousch seems to have changed their pricing I might have to make that a day trip this summer!

Chris, you've reached the pinnacle and now understand what the Jeep culture is really about! How awesome is that?

It also makes me sad in a way. My dad, the one who taught me everything about automobiles, passed March 4th, 2024. I had no chance at such a time; he had developed Dementia a few years earlier.

Cherish the moment.

Even though it was some time ago I’m sorry for your loss.

Yes sir! So far I’ve convinced a buddy to get a jeep and now my Dad. This weekend was what it’s all about…nothing fancy…horrible sleep (we’re too old to camp hahaha) and I can’t wait to do it again! Fills me up in a way few things can!

That's pretty damn cool. When I was a kid, my dad was always looking at Jeeps, FJ40s, and Scouts. He never could bring himself to buy any of them, except a Scout. And he didn't keep that long. He lost that desire and kept driving pickups for the most part. He never really showed an interest in my YJ, or my JK. But once I had the JL, he was curious again. By then he's in his 80s and can barely get in mine. One day, a couple years later, he said that he though he might get a Gladiator. I asked him how he would get in in and out of it, reminding him about his difficulty with my JL. He bought a Tacoma instead (not much better). He still manages, at at 87 to drive the Tacoma, but I know he really wanted a Gladiator.

Anyway, If any of you reading ever thought about getting a Jeep. Do it now. This thread is a good example. Time waits for no one, and someday never comes.

Freakin awesome. Making memories. Kudos to you and your Dad. And he bought a real Jeep, JLR softtop in snazberry with low miles. Looks all stock to. Man want a find. And iirc that was a '21 color only and '21 is known as one of if the best JL model year to date. So cool.
