Brand new to the Jeep world and trying to figure out how to insure the costly practice of owning a Jeep windshield, particularly one with ACC and the resulting windshield-mounted hardware. I'm guessing a windshield replacement will be around $400 including the glass and calibration, and I've been told to expect replacing it yearly. The Jeep dealership I just bought from is offering a (Fidelity, I believe) windshield replacement warranty with 0 deductible, 5 year coverage for $500. This seems reasonable. I live in a state where mandatory replacement of windshield by insurance doesn't happen, and my current insurer (USAA) offers no plan.

1) Are there other plans/coverage out there I should consider?
2) Has anyone used the Fidelity windshield plan, successfully or unsuccessfully?
3) Am I about right with both frequency & cost of windshield replacement?

Hi! I hear you about the windshields. Not sure on how your state does things, but I have USAA also, and while they do not have a windshield policy, this replacement is considered part of their comprehensive insurance plan. I have my deductible set at $100. Had to recently replace a windshield (no---not a Jeep one) and only cost me my $100. I'd check though if the Fidelity (?) one has limits to the amount of replacements you can get in that time frame. I know some people that have gone through 2 - 3 in one year easily. Hopefully you'll never be that person.

Talk with your insurance agent. With State Farm in WI I have full glass coverage with my comprehensive for less than $10/ six months. It was a no brainer to not include that on my plan being a wrangler owner.

Are you in New Mexico? When I lived next door in Arizona, state law said windshield replacement must be included in your insurance due to terrain. I averaged one new windshield per year. Varies by state.

Either way, check with your insurance company. Should be a simple answer.

Here’s a legitimate question. Who told you that you’ll need to replace the windshield once a year, seems like an over exaggeration to sell an additional insurance policy - i have been a wrangler (2 different JKs) owner for 11 years and I’ve replaced a grand total of 1 windshield. Unless you’re flying on gravel or doing heavy off-roading with rocks flying, you won’t need to replace your windshield that often. With that being said, maybe I’m an anomaly?

Check with your insurance company on how they handle that. Some companies include $0 deductible glass repair and replacement, while others offer a separate policy for it.

If your current company does not offer either of those options, look into what the cost difference is to reduce your comprehensive deductible to $50 or $100. Typically the premium increase is pretty negligible reducing from say $500 to $100 (at least it was for me) and comprehensive claims don't ding you like a collision claim does.

Thanks everyone - sadly, here in NM the laws don't require insurance companies to cover windshield replacement, so there is no coverage in that department, at least through mandatory means. I called USAA and they verified there is no separate glass policy. Great idea about seeing if it would be included in the regular comprehensive policy, but I'd worry about racking up claims which may raise my rate. The whole point of this would be to feel comfortable changing the windshield more frequently.

Faticone I've heard from several people about needing to replace the windshield often, but certainly not tons of people, so I'd gladly be wrong. As I drove the vehicle home from an out of state dealer, I heard multiple rocks hit the windshield and later saw at least one minor ding already - on the first drive. So, I'd rather feel like I can be bold and not worry about hurting the windshield.

Thanks for this. Now that a few folks have mentioned this, I'll get in touch and ask them about it. Really appreciate it.
