I’m planning a trip to windrock park during the first week in April. Has anyone been there that time of the year? I’m looking for weather and typical trail conditions. There’s a group or 4-6 of us going. I’ve been told that the on-site cabins are a good place to stay, but we’re also open to air bnb’s as well. Right now we’re looking at 3-4 days of wheeling on the trails.

Retired from Corrections....I have stories.
I did Windrock with ATVs for many years in April. I have also jeeped Windsock three times. Expect decent temps. Bring rain gear and boots. There will be a lot of mud. The nice thing is the mud holes usually have a bottom so it is not like you're getting stuck everywhere. If trail #16 is wet, expect a long day if you are doing it for the badge. Expect a bunch of winching if it is wet. It is difficult when it is dry, Wet it is very difficult. I always say if the water/mud hole is smooth going in and coming out, you are probably good. If it is rutted up going in or out, take precautions.

Windrock is a great place to wheel. Friends that have stated in the cabins have liked them.

I live very close to Windrock and weather in East TN especially April, is always unpredictable. Temperatures are generally mild and rain can be expected, although not guaranteed. With that said the trails can be quite soupy, and Rocks very slick. If you are tackling some of the more difficult trails you will need a winch, and you need to up your skid plate/armor game.

They are building a bunch of new cabins around the park so there should be ample amount of places to stay. If not Oak Ridge has a few hotels as a last resort.

Agree with the above posts.

April can be wet and Windrock trails that are wet increases the difficulty x2.

I highly suggest finding someone with trail/navigational knowledge to go with. Windrock is huge and the trails can turn from mild to wild regardless of what the map legend says.

Windrock has/is currently adding cabins throughout the park. I was there in October and a lot of cabin construction was going on. Oliver Springs has a few cabin rental places also and some of them back up to the park.

Good info, thanks everyone. We had originally planned for a two week trip to Colorado and Moab for later in the summer, but unfortunately a job change happened, and I lost 3 weeks of vacation, so we called an audible and made the decision to hit Windrock during spring break.
