I’ll just get this out of the way. I’m impatient and often make stupid mistakes that are costly. I just got a JL last week but have been stock piling parts and accessories for a few months, some of which was a MOPAR steel front bumper and a Smittybilt X20 10k winch with a synthetic line.
I ran into a few small issues here and there but nothing major but I hated the look of the giant hook on the winch line. I bought a Factor 55 flat link but that meant I had to cut the hook off the stock SB winch line, since it doesn’t have a disconnect (WTF?). I used a grinder cutoff wheel to cut through the hook but of course nicked my winch line. It looks like 2-3 strands got frayed and one of those was cut pretty thorough.
I’ve looked at several videos online regarding winch line repairs. Looks to be a bit time-consuming but not incredibly difficult. Just curious of anyone else’s experience. Below is a pic of where the damage is. I’m going to test it this weekend and see how it holds up.
Any friendly opinions would be much appreciated.
