Below steering wheel, behind panel, in particular behind the slotted circle, wires are connected to it. What is it, what does it do?

It is in the same location as the vent opening on the cover? If so, maybe it's the crotch heater. My other guess is an auto climate control sensor.

Yes, when panel snapped back on, vented circle lines up with unknown wired part.

If a crotch heater/cooler, whose nuts are that high? Mine hang low and heavy, consistently! ? Could be in cabin temp sensor, more likely.
