I have a 2018 JLU Sport S with the Uconnect 3 with 5 in display. Whenever my wife or I plug in our iPhones to the USB 1 or USB 2 the radio reboots, sometimes more than two or three times in a row. If we are on a long road trip this issue can become quite annoying. When this happens the speakers do a fairly loud bang and the clock resets, and then I must unplug and plug in the phone again if I want it to be recognized by the radio. Recently I decided to try the USB-C port instead to see if I have better luck and that port charges my phone, but it doesn’t recognize the device to play any audio, unless I use Bluetooth, in which case the quality is lower, but at least the system doesn’t reboot. Regardless, the OEM radio has not performed how you’d expect it to perform for more than 2 years and it seems that Jeep has no solution for these issues. I’ve taken the vehicle to the dealership more than once and they haven’t been able to pinpoint the problem because they say it happens with the phones plugged in, so it’s not the radio’s problem, but the phone. However, I don’t have any issues with any other car radio when I plug in my phone. The Jeep service center even went ahead and ordered a new radio to see if they could solve my problem, but for whatever reason when they notified me to take my car in for service they’d returned it to FCA. At this point I’m at my wit’s end and my warranty is almost done, and short of buying a new radio I don’t know what to do. Any suggestions?

Pull the fuse and reinsert? Change the vehicle’s battery (batteries)?

You won’t like my answer. When in your vehicle, put your phone away. Turn off the radio and keep it off. Focus on the road and enjoy your drive. If you don’t want to do that, then sell your truck and get something else.

Lemon law that B***** and get a 7 or 8" on your new rig .

I have a sport S that came with the 5. 3 months of dealing with a POS factory radio i bought the 8" factory outright. I feel your pain.

I’ve had the same issue for the last year. Took it to the dealer who told me it was a known issue. They said if they replaced it the new unit would have the same issue. I’ve been relying on Bluetooth ever since. Been hoping for a software update from FCA, but I don’t think that’s ever going to come for the 5”.

I'm very sorry to hear this. Have you had a case open for this concern? If not, I would be happy to help! Please send us a private message.

*Update*

I just got back from having it in service. They were able to perform software update 1577 per Service Bulletin 08-84-19, so far I have not experienced the issue again during the 20 minute drive back.
