The question was do we know why?
Nobody knows why at this point. During the reveal the guy said, " due to overwhelming demand" they are putting diesels into Wranglers, too bad that doesn't include two door Wranglers. He also said customer demands build Wranglers, so check out my petition (http://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/ecodiesel-petition-for-2019-two-door-wranglers.2132) and maybe we can change Jeep's mind and put a diesel into two door Wranglers.

I wouldn’t doubt that the diesel will be available in the two at a later date. We’ll see of course.

I dunno if others knew this, but it's always seemed vague to me if the fender vent was functional or not. When we saw the body shell images months ago, there wasn't much to go off. Glad that Mark specified that it is INDEED functional, and helps to relive under-hood pressure that contributed to hood flutter. He also scoffed at the idea of putting a fake vent on a wrangler. All around seems like cool guy and a true wrangler die hard.

Functional, yes, and that's good, better than faux vents.

Adding the side vents to relieve hood flutter is a stretch. The hood flutter was solely due to the weak, rubbery hold downs. Replacing those with more stout hold downs from the aftermarket solved the problem. I'm betting the improved hold downs on the JL, without the side vents would solve the flutter problem. I think its and excuse to add the side vents.

I'm not against a side vent per se, but I hate the way the fender is formed for the side vent. The fender indentation being coincident with the top of the standard flare looks odd. But alas, I'm repeating myself. :)

Every other automobile on the road, as far as I know, does not suffer from hood flutter, and they (most) don't have side vents.
