Modern tires are remarkably reliable. If you never visit remote areas where tire damage is likely, and not having a spare means making a camp until help arrives, then you can likely do without.

Mounting it on the hood simply wont do. The aluminum is too thin to support it and you would need to remove it every time you lifted the hood to check the oil or add washer fluid. Not to mention lost forward visibility, and the likelihood of it launching from the hood in a collision.

A tailgate reinforcement would be redundant, and look awkward, so it would have to go. And you would need to choose one of the several cover plates out there for the vents. No only for aesthetics, but for security. I can break into a JL in about 15 seconds with the vents exposed. Just pull one out, and manipulate the door handle from the opening.

Forget mounting it on the roof. The SMC/fiberglass is not designed to bear weight.

Im not really sure if I understand you.
I definitely don't want to move the spare wheel anywhere, not on the hood or anywhere else. I just don't want to carry it.

95% of time Im in town. modern cars often do not have a spare wheel but only a glue kit with a compressor. I bought such a kit and have it in my trunk. The first picture is the final solution from Teraflex.
