Thermostat replacement

I think my thermostat is going on my 21jlu with 130k miles. Like if I stop anywhere for too long the internal fan starts to blow and I can see the temperature go up high. so I think it's going. My question is is this an easy enough job to doing my own and any recommendations on the part. I called advance Auto and they were talking about something made of plastic. I didn't really like that.

Which engine?

Search online for How To videos. Regardless of engine, thermostat is something a mechanically inclined person should be able to do. But can get messy. No matter how well you drain the radiator, you'll get more coolant when removing hoses and t.stat housing.

If the t.stat housing by Mopar is plastic, it's possible that plastic is all you'll find. Plastic or aluminum you will need to make sure housing is completely seated before final tightening of fasteners. Failure to fully seat housing invites breaking it, or leak if it doesn't break.

Make sure that you are not low on engine coolant. As for the thermostat, use only MOPAR OEM. If you are going to change the thermostat at that mileage, it would be a good idea to also flush the cooling system.
