I have a set of Nikon Prostaff P7 series binocs. Excellent glass for the money, bright and clear. You will need a steady hand though.
I also have a couple sets of Canon stabilized binocs. They are about double the price range. The stabilization is unreal, but the image isn't as good as the Nikons. For your purpose they are probably the better choice.
