Hello everyone I am fairly new to Jeep Wranglers as I am waiting on my to be delivered. I was wondering what is the deal with the screen protectors for the 8.4 screen. Do I really need one, and what do they actually do? I have had the 8.4 in my Grand Cherokee and my Ram, and never had a screen protector on. I have read on here that it is one of the first mods that should be done, and I am just wondering why?

As long as you're carful when cleaning it it's probably not really needed.

I ordered it. It cost $15 and came in a pack of two. When the screen is on I can't even tell its there (I didn't try to get it perfect). Maybe it's completely unnecessary, but for $15, at least it gives some protection of something happening by accident. I figured why not.

I use this one: https://www.quadratec.com/p/mopar/media-center-screen-protector-jeep-wrangler-jl-84-screen

Why? All it takes is a careless car wash attendant to scratch the hell out of your screen. Cheap insurance. Also, I hate the way it shows fingerprints without one.

Although its true that it creates a glossy look to a matte screen, i feel that it's a small amount of money for a "piece of mind" for scratches and screen wear. I have seen people's screens wear oddly. I think that if you can get passed the glossy part, it's worth it.

Ordered the 8.4 screen protector before my JLUR arrived.
I literally ordered my screen protector while sitting in the dealership once I knew the my Jeep would be.... mine. Very first mod!

I’d do it. Not sure if people are still having issues but last year there were reports of smudges, etc. showing on the screens in places that were frequently touched. Cleaner wouldn’t remove. Plus extra layer for protection from scratches etc.
