I have seen some diy carts made to store the hardtop resting as it does when installed vs flipped on its back like the floor carts. I have also seen permanent shelves as well but wanted something I could move around as needed. I was thinking of using this HD scaffolding and making the platform slightly bigger to hold the hardtop. This way I can store my motorcycles underneath or anything else I need as well as being able to just slide the top right on to the platform with minimal handling. Does this look like I am asking for trouble or you think this would work?

Do you have access to a garage or carport, where you could just install a hoist? I would be very careful doing anything too creative with a storage option. If you design something that fails, you could be looking at hundreds of dollars in broken glass on the hard top.

Be careful of the width on a JL hard top. See this description of the dimensions.

Not everyone wants to use a hoist. I am going with the Freedom Jack on my shop crane:

I can then rig it to store on the crane, or just sit it down on platform I might make up from from whatever I have in my garage already.
