I went to check the tie rod and track bar this morning since I am having the loose steering issue and to my surprise found a lot of rust spots especially on the tie rod ends. is this normal? is it covered by the warranty? please advise on how to solve the issue and protect other parts

That does look a little excessive for only being 5 months old and for never having been through a winter. I assume you're the first owner? Do you take it offroad frequently?

There are several threads related to rust treatment and prevention.... have you gone thru these?

Thanks for the recommendation @VNT I'll check it out. I just assumed I won't need any rust proofing for the first couple years. I had my Ford for 5 years and the underneath looks much better than my 5 months old jeep :headbang:
I assume the warranty won't kick in because there's no holes/broken parts yet.

I keep mine for years, come up my way in Maine and look at the rotted trash on our roads due the calcium liquid they spray on all the roads before every storm. What you have is surface rust on parts which were not painted.

Do some research, protect your Jeep.

I highly recommend you do it your self. At very least power wash the underside of your jeep and spray some wax type undercoating, not the rubberized undercoating which will fail.

Some use the oils (Krown) and that is fine too but you have to apply every year.

I go over board and do long process on my cars using various products.

Fluid Film and Eastwoods and PSC are good places to check out.

Seems like every new truck (and motorhome, interestingly) I've ever purchased has had some surface rust on the various components underneath - even some that were factory orders I took delivery on within a week of arriving at the dealer from the factory. That includes a one-ton Ford Econoline. All the Rams I've had have had it, but interestingly, the Dodge cars have not had much if any at all of it (they were factory orders I picked up right away though - not sure what effect that has). Do the trucks, and SUVs like our Jeeps, just have more unpainted surfaces underneath? Rust can form within 24 hours if the conditions are right, so it wouldn't take long. I figure some of it occurs when the vehicles are moved from a lot onto the train, since that is done places that use various deicing chem's on the asphalt surfaces - but does anyone know if the factory uses some on the lots they park completed vehicles on? I'm sure they use it on the ramps into the train cars, else there'd be a lot more sliding into the train car frames and other vehicles being or already loaded.
That all being said, since I don't live where they use much chem's, and don't take the vehicles where they use some very often (when I do I thoroughly wash the undersides), I don't worry too much about it - but if I lived where chem's are used in the winter, I might be looking to protect them a little better.
Oh yes - those vehicles I've kept many years, like the Ford Econoline, didn't get noticeably worse over time...once the surface rust covered the areas it "quit", which I believe is a trait of surface rust. (old guys used to tell me the best rust prevention was a layer of surface rust - did they know what they were talking about?)

Its a phenomenon, the more you care the more rust, scratches, dings you get.
