Running Boards For Rock Protection

So i'm totally new to the wranglers guys....just came from being a grand Cherokee srt guy.....I just got jl rubicon.....
Already finding out that the rocks get thrown from the front to the rear fenders, so chips are coming.....with what appears no mud flap options at this point, my thoughts are adding some fairly flat running boards might give some protection....

Any thoughts...

I always put the side steps on the Wranglers; mostly for the rock protection.

Sun Tek or Xpel clear wrap for the rear fenders for the small ones and running boards as well for the bigger ones.
