Reasonable upgrade for 7" unit

The wife's JL 2 door has the 7" head unit and she's always commenting how much better the stereo sounds in my JLU with the 8.4 unit, sub, and amp (all factory). Not looking for something elaborate like a 10" display, but wanted to see if there's a way to convert to the premium Jeep system or is it easier to go aftermarket without spending a fortune?

If she's okay with the head unit I would amp the stock speakers and add a subwoofer. That's what I did with my 2 door. I used the PAC AmpPro for line out, a Skar 5 channel amp, shallow 10" sub in a basic truck box. All in for around $600 and a day in the garage.
I have no reference to the Alpine system but its leaps and bounds above the base audio with 7" head unit. I can actually hear my music with the top off now.

You could also go with a Fosgate DSR-1 for the line out. There is a t connector for use from the HU and get a full DSP with 4 pair of line outs. I had an AmpPro that came with the Quart Stage 6 and replaced it with the DSR and the PLC2 knob. I prefer the curve of the sub now with the DSR than I did with the AmpPro. Metro Acces also makes an amp rack that doesn’t cost and arm and a leg.

Thanks for the input. She's been quiet about it as of now, and I don't need another project at this time, so I'm forgetting about it. ?
