Let me preface this post by assuring you that I know this isn’t a Lexus. I’ve driven Jeeps for most of my adult life (started at 14, now 66). That being said, my new to me 2018 JLUR rattled so bad, the radio couldn’t compete. It has only 26K miles, and I hoped that it wasn’t something I’d have to live with. Well, after a fair bit of analysis, I found the two main sources. First were the covers over the rear door strap, on the lower B-pillar. Lots of plastic on plastic contact, which doesn’t fit tight enough with just the plastic clips. My solution was using a couple of different adhesive-backed foam insulation materials to cushion the pieces. A light tapping on the covers with your fingers can confirm if you’re done here.
Once that was done, another test drive found the next source, namely the plastic trim screwed to the roll bar, primarily over the rear doors. For this area, I removed all the screws (4 or 5 on each side), pried the trim down slightly, and inserted thin strips of self-adhesive closed-cell foam. Then I replaced the screws and tightened them up. My next test drive found 99% of the annoying rattles were GONE! There may be a piece or two of trim that could require another piece of foam, but for now, I’m extremely satisfied.
Here’s a few pictures.
Regards,
John
