Is this your pic? The middle part is a stud that it clips onto, it could be just behind there. Both parts can be ordered online if you look at the carpet/floor diagrams.

Thanks! Doh’ you are absolutely right:, I can see the edge of it now I had it at dealer last week and assumed they had left it out. Newbie question how do I remove this piece so I can fix it?

Assuming nothing is broken, you should be able to 'finesse' the carpet onto that stud with a little effort.
