Newb JL question

Nearly got stuck in a storm the other day with the freedom panels off. Is the UConnect system at all protected from the elements?

Theoretically, yes. Jeep says it'll take exposure. Anecdotal says everything from "no worries" to "got wet and quit working".

I dont go topless, but if I did, I'd have trash bags and duct tape aboard.

It would be water resistant so a little water sprinkled on it won't hurt.

It is not water proof though. Drench it good or dunk it and all bets are off.

You’ll be fine. I wouldn’t recommend letting it sit uncovered in the rain for a while, though. Getting caught in the occasional rainstorm while driving is fine.

I love and own the Bestop Sunrider but am motivated to not use it this summer only because of some arcane rules that the people at U-haul have regarding soft tops (even partially soft ones like the Bestop Sunrider) and their unwillingness to rent trailers to people who don't drive hard tops.

I've got need to use such trailers a couple of times this summer.

These rules are stupid IMHO. While the JL's Sports Bars aren't up to the standard of roll bars, it's these Sports Bars (and safety belts) that are going to protect occupants in the case of a roll over more than any hard or soft top.

Anyway I did buy and install this though. I'm hopeful, following the directions, that the 3m tape it is attached with is all the manufacture says it is.

Sunrider opening/closing is much faster than this, which is much faster than Freedom Panel removal/reinsertion.

Just know that I power wash the inside of my jeep. Granted I do not use the power washer up close on the dash, but I do spray it down.
