So I’m a first time jeep owner as of last year. 2019 JLU I’ve already got a few upgrades done nothing crazy, I have a 2.5 inch lift with 35s on. Came stock with 3.45 axle gear ratio and a 3rd generation Dana 44 HD rear axle. MY ONLY QUESTION for now is , when should or do I really, replace the axle and gear ratio

I see this is your first post. It's really a great question.

Please take a little time and read through the following: https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/forums/transmission-axles-gears.41/

There is a lot of great answers in here regarding your question; probably more information than you can digest in a couple hours of reading.

Welcome to the forum!

Which JL do you have?

The D44 can handle 35” tires. And the new 8-speed automatic, with its super low 1st gear, makes re-gearing rather unnecessary; that is until you get to much larger tires.

Good luck.
