New here and new to Wranglers. Just recently picked up a used 2018 Unlimited - everything looks great outside of a little bubbling that I've read so much about near the hinges on two of the doors. While the "problem" isn't bad now...I do know that it'll most likely get worse and worse...and could eventually be really bad.

Just wondering if anyone has had any success purchasing new door shells from Mopar or one of the many sellers on FB Marketplace, having them painted, and using the components from the current doors (handles, panels, window/motor, etc) in the new shell?

I've looked around the forums here and couldn't find anything on that topic. Is this a thing?

Just want to have a plan in case it gets to that point :)

Appreciate the input.

I didn’t do it for that reason, but did something similar…I purchased mine (ā€˜22 JLU High Tide) and the drivers side front and rear doors were missing (it’s a long story and not important here). Because (at the time) my color (Hydro Blue Pearl) was a new color for JL’s, I was unable to find any used Hydro Blue Pearl doors for JL’s at salvage yards, so I bought 2 JL shells and completely stripped them (including the hinges and bolts), and had them painted in the correct color, then bought 2 replacement doors from a salvage yard, and rebuilt my newly painted door shells using all the components from the second set.
As far as difficulty, I’m pretty mechanically inclined, so it took about 1 night after supper per door to strip the parts and then repurpose them in my newly repainted shells.
I then sold the second set of doors that I had stripped to someone else locally who was looking for undamaged shells.
If someone is at all handy with hand tools, it can be done relatively easily, just pay attention as you disassemble, and the reassemble in the opposite direction.
I have no idea if it will potentially be preventive with the bubbling issue, but at least on those two doors, there is now a layer of paint between all dissimilar metal components.

I had the work done under warranty but they replaced the door skins and transferred over the components with the exception of the hinges themselves which were replaced with the new style with the zinc liner (I think it’s zinc). I’m not sure if that answers your question?

Thank you both.

Resin - that is kind of what I was thinking. Take apart the old, bubbling doors - swap the parts into the newly painted shell. New hinges (with zinc liner).

I like to think I’m pretty handy. Maybe I’m over-simplifying…but just take it slow and reassemble in reverse, right?

Hoping it never gets to that point. šŸ˜‰

I ordered the Mopar doors for my 2018 with intent to replace my corroding doors. I ran a test with one door to see if I could do it before ordered the other 3 doors. I was able to swap everything out. I also bought new hinges. The trouble is you aren’t going to get a good paint match if you have one of the fun colored Jeeps. Mine is Ocean Blue. I did this before realizing Stellantis would pay to have the work done. Now I have 3 door shells I can’t use because the Jeep body shop had to source their own parts for the warranty from Jeep.

I’ve got 3
Brand new, unpainted, still in bubble wrap, doors for a 2018 if you live near
