I wanted to let everyone know who has not used this site, the headache you will encounter to save money.
So FCA has the site, Store.Mopar.com. This is the official MOPAR parts and accessories site. Recently I went to order a set of Dana 44 axles front and rear. The dealerships quoted me over 5k for the front axle, and just under 4k for the rear. The total price they quoted me, was just under 8k plus 1k for shipping. For a dealership, these prices are typically ludacris. So I went online to the above mentioned website. I found the same axles combined for 4,200 with no shipping if you select your local dealership as local pick up. I also got another 15% off. So I ordered and paid for them. This should be all there is, until I get a phone call to come get my axles. NOPE !!!! I forgot to mention the website says 10 days to receive. So I figured 10 days plus or minus 1 or 2 days.

5 days after I ordered them, the local dealership called me. And asked if I really wanted to proceed with this order. They said once the order was placed, there are no refunds or exchanges. I was baffled at this point. Why was this order not processed by now. He said he was on vacation and is the only person at the dealership to process online orders. Wait a minute ? I ordered on the MOPAR website, and it gets forwarded to the dealership to process ?? So then why would the dealership not offer the same price as the website. He informed me that FCA posts a price, and makes the dealership order the part at that price, and eat the difference. So this creates an issue between me the customer and the dealership. So, anyways I waited the 10 days, and no axles. I waited 15 days and called to ask where the parts are. 5 minutes later I get an email saying customer has recieved the parts. WOW !!! Hold on !!! So I called them back. They said someone hit the wrong button, but will keep tracking the part. Next thing I get is a UPS notice of shipment, and my delivery date will be 3 days later. Then on the day of delivery, UPS had no part to track. Now we are working on 30 days after I ordered the axles, and I am calling the dealership, and he says my axles are at the LA train terminal, and he is working to get them here. After 5 more days of him calling me every day to give me another excuse, he finally says your axles are here. So I go rent a Uhaul trailer since they are in crates. I show up at the dealership, and the are my axles. So I pull up next to them to load easier. I go to the parts dept, and he say go ahead and load them. I asked if they could provide some help, since each crate is over 400 lbs. After he gave me an attitude, he went in the shop, and asked for help. 6 guys were glad to help. Once we got them loaded, the parts manager made the comment, "Thanks for ordering on the website, and taking food off my table !" I looked at him and said, "What the hell did you just say ?" He just walked away. What an asshole....
Fast forward to this last Friday, and my windshield gets broken. This is windshield #3. So I go to the Safelite website, and now they want 650 for a windshield I just paid less than 400 6 months ago. So I look online for the new Gorilla glass. And the MOPAR store has it listed for 645 plus tax. So before I ordered it, I called the dealership to see what they wanted for price. They quote me 1150 plus tax, and would need to order it in. So I go online, and it was 703 with tax. I select local pick up at a different dealership than the one I ordered the axles from, hoping my experience would be different. Today I get called by the dealership asking if I really wanted to order this part. He said once the order is made, there is no turning back. And if I wanted it shipped to me, they couldnt do it, and would need to just refund me my money. I said, "If you look at the order, I selected local pick up" He said, "Oh Ok, but are you sure you want to proceed with the order ? There is no turning back once it is processed." So after I paid 700 for a part 3 days earlier, I am just going to change my mind, and I am oh so glad that parts department made me rethink my choices in life. WOW !!! This is the joke of a system FCA created with their website.
So if you want to save some serious money, the MOPAR online store will save you a good amount for factory parts. But just be forewarned, you will deal with dealerships who are pissed off, and your parts might take a long time to receive. My suggestion, is look at other vendors who can get you the same part for the same price. You wont have to deal with the debacle created by FCA.

thats stupid but i doubt the dealership is "eating the difference". theyre just not making their exorbitant commission on it. like when you buy a car at an out of state dealer and have it shipped to your local dealer, though they can charge you a nominal fee for it.

I doubt this is any different at other dealerships/automakers. They probably all have the same or similar setup. The difference might be actual customer service at those dealerships. But I'm kind of surprised the dealer is only charging you 100% markup. I thought it would have been 400%! lol

Yeah, parts departments charge based on a matrix. If you're a body shop or place that usually pays wholesale, they'll charge say 10% more than the wholesale price, for a customer off the street they charge 20% - 30% more than MSRP. They just do that inflate sales. They don't "lose" money if they sell if for less, they just make less profit.

I have a good friend that manages the parts department at a local dealership. I usually pay significantly less than MSRP and they are still making a lot of profit on the sale.

So, I guess the real question is why do you like taking food from other people's tables?

I get a feeling that dealerships are on the way out what with carvana etc. they seem to be cutting their on throat. A system might be in the make for the customer to purchase parts and warranty labor and service through a 3rd party vender?

Man the mark up on those axles... I would be too embarrassed to quote them to you.

The Mopar website is only good for one thing and one thing only: to get the part number.

Once you have the part number, you can shop around on Google or Amazon for the best prices.

I found entering the part number is also a good way to search eBay; found some great deals there.

Good luck.

Carvana doesn't sell new vehicles, they just flip used ones. I've owned a lot of vehicles in my life and have never purchased used. I've sold a lot of well maintained vehicles into the used market though.
