I just checked both and for my Motorolas only DCS worked. Curious what you were using though in case it's just radio brand specific.

Well I can set the privacy code very easily on my Motorola handhelds but I can't figure out if I want the CTCSS or DCS privacy code setting on the Midland.
I’ve been doing a lot of reading on radios lately. Here’s a quick primer on the two types of ā€˜privacy tones’:
https://www.retevis.com/blog/what-i...han CTCSS,annoying interference or cross talk.

tl;dr Use DCS (might also be called DPL or DTCS)—more modern, offers more codes than CTCSS.

Note: Even when using codes to filter out unwanted comms on your radio, those transmissions are still in the ether. If the channel (aka frequency) in use has a lot of other users not in your group, you may still be stepping on each other, you just don’t hear them bc of the DCS/CTCSS filtering on your radio. Best to tell everyone to switch to a different, less trafficked channel.

Well I think my new mic was working. @Inkhero you could hear me fine on the radio this weekend, correct?

We did use privacy codes and that seemed to work out fine as well.

Yeah your mic came through clear. I would say sometimes the first syllable got cut off occasionally, so there may be a half-second delay required from when the button is pressed

My radio instructions advise to give a few seconds after pushing the transmit button to start talking.

Yeah the extra chatter is always annoying and we always have to change channels 3 times during the day. Whatever channel we were using for Backway to Crown King kept giving us weather and time updates every hour lol.
There are two heavily used GMRS repeaters (575 & 600 and the 600 repeater is a SWCRS linked repeater to numerous repeaters throughout Arizona and New Mexico) both repeaters have a humongous coverage footprint.
