Matte to glossy wheels

Hello all
I have brand new pro comp series 69 matte black wheels. I love the look when they are super clean and dark. But man are they a pain to keep clean. I spend more time on the wheels then I do the whole rest of the Jeep. There is no spraying them and letting dry. They look horrible and grey. I’ve used wheel wax on them which gives me the look I want. But I have to use it after every wash. Any suggestions. I’m even willing to paint them.

I meant to take them to a professional powder coater. I don’t know which process would yield better results. I’d think all that’s needed is to put the powder coat them as they are.

Maybe you could take one off your Jeep (while still keeping the tire mounted), and spray some clear coat on the back side of one of your wheels to see how it would gloss up the finish, and if you like the result have a pro shoot some coats of clear gloss over them.
A pro applied clear coat should result in a pretty durable finish if powdercoating is more than you want to spend.

not usually. gloss powder and matte powder are different. ive seen this done before where they sprayed a clear over a matte and it came out yellowish. the clear was made to go over the specific powder.

you could take it to a paint shop to have a clear sprayed over it but paint is 10x more fragile than powder. the right way to do is to take it to a powder coating shop. they would either strip off the current finish or sand it quite a bit to spray over it with the new powder. full cold strip is the best way really.

will cost you about $100 or so per wheel. at that point you can have any glossy color you want done.

i prefer the matte or satin finish look but dirt/mud just sticks to it. much easier to keep clean with a nice glossy clear coat.

whatever you do, dont try to DIY. leave it to the pros.
