I had a set of Patagonia tires. The worst tires, I have ever owned in my 40 years of driving. They have terrible wet road performance and started cupping at 5,000 miles. I would be a hard pass even if you gave them to me. I would still like to smack the crap out of the Youtube influencers that were recommending them. Just know, when I see Milestar Patagonia tires on a 50+ thousand dollar Jeep I am pretty much like WTF. In my humble opinion when someone defends these terrible tires, I kind of just think to myself like they have not had to depend on tire to get them off the trail, and their opinion is not based on real world experience.
Here is real world performance of the Pats against Cooper STT Pro. We are all aired down to 10 psi. with both lockers on.. The Coopers are 37s and the pats are 35. The Cooper made the climb with ease and one of them even stopped during the climb and took off again. The JLUR with Patagonia never made the climb and had to find a different line. He made several more attempts after I turned the video off as it was getting ridiculous.
Here is your real world expericnce.
Bill making the climb look easy with Cooper STT Pro tires
Rob not making the climb with Milestar Patagonia tires.
Phil gassed it hard and spun a tire, then stopped and started again with out hardly spinning a tire..
At the end of the day it is your money, spend it how you want. I hated their perfarmance on the road even more. I had them on our XJ in 33. If you don't know about a 98 XJ, there was no traction control or anti lock brakes. Well the XJ would put out about 97 hp at the rear axle and it would spin the Pats all the way into third gear on damp pavement with stock gearing.. The brakes would easlily overwhelm the tires traction on damp pavement to the point It would easily lock up all four tires. Like two car lengths was not a sufficient following distance. in the city. It was not un common for the rear drum brakes to lock up the rear tires dry pavement.
Do you have to worry about that, no because your Jeep has anti lock brake, traction control and stability control. and then your Jeep will mask just how poorly these tires perform.
You will hear people tell you they perform great aired down. Duh just about every tire works great aired down. If you watch Matts Off Road recovery, he will sing praise about the Patagonia tires, but then he is getting flat and tire failure often. But hey he gets them for free.....
There are so many quality tires out there, that there is no reason to buy Milestar Patagonia tires. The funny thing is you can almost find nobody that is getting 50,000+ miles out of the Patagonia tires. Most are replacing them between 20,000 and 30,000. So even a good deal does not make them a good deal when you are getting about half the milage out of them.
The Micky Thompson Baja Boss ATs are great tires. I am half way through my second set and will buy them again.Hell yeah, thank you for the honesty and experience!
What I really want is a set of Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T.
Actually I read it through completely. It’s a huge reason I want them. For me they check all the boxes. Thanks for the review! The Micky Thompson Baja Boss ATs are great tires. I am half way through my second set and will buy them again.
I did a 20,000 mile review on them last year. They have now taken me to the Deadhorse Alaska and back Michigan.
My review of the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT tires
I love them on the hyw. They are quiet on the road.I’m up in Colorado and need new tires. I off-road a lot, varied terrain. I also rip back and forth to chicago to visit parents. How do Mickey Thompson Baja do on highway?
