For aesthetic reasons only, I would like to level out the factory suspension on my 392, as I am not a huge fan of the downward rake of the factory suspension. I have a '22 392 XR with completely stock suspension running 37x12.50x17 Yokohama MTs on factory wheels (no spacers). Nothing fancy, I was looking at the 3/4" Daystar leveling kit from Quadratec.

I am only afraid to pull the trigger because of any potential side effects a coil spacer may bring. Please chime in if you have any opinions/experiences with my following concerns.

  • Will this have any potential effect on the likelihood of experiencing death wobble? I'm 33k miles in with no issue, but am concerned changing the front steering geometry even slightly could make death wobble more likely.
  • Would this make a noticeable difference in wind resistance? With the 4.56 gearing, I didn't notice much, if any acceleration difference going from the factory BFG 315/70/17 to my current 37's. I did however find that it seemed at 80-85 I was fighting a substantial bit more wind resistance just from the inch or so the Jeep was raised from the taller tires. My driving is 70-80% highway, so highway drivability is a big factor.
  • Any experience with a 3/4" front spacer? I am looking to level the suspension, and would be upset with myself if these actually brought the front higher than the rear. I would be happy even if it lessened the downward rake in the front, just don't want to take it too far. Pics and description of a similar install would be greatly appreciated.
  • Any known issues with the Daystar kit I have linked above? Also would love to hear any recommendations as to coil spacers/level kit. Not looking to swap out full suspension.
Thanks in advance for all the input!

After the Clayton 392 Performance Coils were installed, the Jeep gained 1 1/4” in the front (measured to the flare extension 40 1/4” before, 41 1/2” after) and just under a .5” in the rear (flare extension at 40 1/2” before, 40 7/8” after). Still a slight rake of about 5/8”, was 1 1/4” before (I do have a Warn Zeon 8S on the front). Finally looks like it should’ve from the factory.
Handles a lot better and doesn’t feel as soft when you get on the throttle and take turns. Also feels a lot more planted down the highway. Would 100% recommend to anyone considering them.

Rob, You shouldn’t notice any change in geometry with that small of a spacer. I would say running heavier 37s will soon start to see some deterioration in handling but nothing that can’t be cared for. It’s the price everyone pays for larger tires 👍🏻.

I see you are in DFW area. I have a set of those sitting in my garage if you want to swing by a grab them, yours if you want them. I added those to my previous Sport on top of Mopar 2” lift to level things out.

I am digging the idea of the Clayton springs! I watched their (short) youtube video, and had a couple questions. They said it is a stiffer spring rate. Does this translate to a rougher ride, or just better handling and tracking as claimed by Clayton? Also, it looks like you have the XR wheels, so I assume yours is an XR package. Clayton states their springs lift an XR a little more than a non-XR. I thought the XR had the factory 2" Mopar lift. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't that mean the XR models already have a taller coil?

XR and non XR 392’s have the same suspension. The 1" height difference comes from the 35" tires vs the 33" tires. Everything after the Clayton Coil install has been for the better (ride, handling, steering, and stance).
