I know that this has been mentioned a million times but all I see are threads about the 3.6 or 3.6 e-torque. I have the m210 and the 2.0l with the factory 4.56 gears and I am running 37s. It does great off-road but it is also my DD. I am thinking of regearing when I do lockers but I'm not sure of running 4.88s or 5.13s. I do a lot of highway driving and the 4.56s are ok but I would like to get a little better stability from the transmission when running 70-75mph but not sacrifice fuel mileage. What is everyone's thoughts or real world experiences on this?

Maybe I am missing it but do you have the 2.0l?. I do and I am looking to go to 37’s and planned to regear from the 4.56 to a 5.13 but I am curious to hear the opinions as well. Which tires do you have,? I am curious about the weight impact.

I'm sorry, mine does have the 2.0l. I am running the General Grabber X3s, 37x12.5r17. on Method Beadgrips

Unless your commute involves a lot of hills, IMO 4.88 would be better than 5.13 for fuel efficiency. That said, 4.88 is so close to 4.56 that I doubt you would notice much difference.

I have the 2.0 with 4.10 and 37' nitto mud tires. I regeared last weekend with spicer 4.88 and revolution rear crly axleshafts

The most notable change was that i can now actively see 8th gear and that did help add about 1-2 mpg freeway. In city driving after slowing down for a light and having the light turn green right before the transmission shifts to 1st, 3rd gear actually does something better than drag on forever. That was also noticeable. Overall it makes it shift at the right points and maintain that power band better. City MGP is better just because your doing 40-45 and in 6th already(cruising not mashing)

But, Off the line feels slower although you can feel the torque much more. I'm half thinking that the 4.56 would have been a better gear for me.

overall i'm "Happyish" about the regear

4.88 will bring the rpm the same as stock 35s and 4.56 final; 5.13 will be about 110 rpm higher at 75 mph.
I've read a lot of posts from people running different ratios and their experiences very a lot, so my conclusion is that you can't place a lot of weight on other people's opinions as it is a very personal thing. Some people have no problem on 35s and the sport 3.45.
Having said that, I'm running 4.56 on the smallish factory 35s and feel that this is over geared. I'd go for 5.13 but then I tow occasionally. It also depends on your cruising speed and driving style. On a previous Jeep I went from 4.10 to 4.56, which is a small change, and it made a large difference from a standstill.

I'm not forseeing doing any towing with it unless I were to go to a pop up. For what your saying, almost sounds like I would almost be better off just bumping a gear and going to the 4.88s

I admit I love the power I feel off the line, with the 4.56s. But then again I want to be able to keep up with the flow of traffic and not watch my MPGs drop through the roof...lol. Oh the joys of owning a jeep...

I'd still go for 5.13, but as I pointed out it is a very personal choice. Perhaps you can find someone locally with that exact gearing and 37s; it's not that uncommon.
