Newbie here but I was just looking at the weights for our beloved JL’s. Why would a Rubicon weigh in at 200lbs less than a Sahara? I would have thought the other way around, hmm.

Where are you getting that information. This is from the Jeep comparison tool on jeep.com. I am aware that their website is not always up to date but from this page the Sahara does not weigh more than the Rubicon.

That was what was released before the launch. I am not sure if that is entirely accurate at this time but then again what is on Jeep's website is probably not entirely accurate either as we have seen with other information that has been updated.

It looks like the reason for the confusion might be that there's no 2dr Sahara currently, and that list on the forum post is giving the weight figures as a "2dr / 4 dr" set. Since there's no 2 dr number for the Sahara, it looks like the Sahara weighs more than the Rubicon, but that's because we were looking at the 4dr Sahara vs the 2dr Rubicon. The numbers in the comparison tool match when you look at it that way...

By the way, what's the difference between "base weight" and "curb weight", the two different values shown on the comparison tool screenshot above?

I am not 100% sure but I think base weight is the model as built with no options. Curb weight would be what the model weighs with options. I think that is why curb weight is N/A because it depends on what options you add like steel bumper group.

I'm no expert but if it is true could it be due to the Sahara having 18in wheels compared to the Rubi's 17in, and also the selec-trac trans?

I believe curb weight includes all fluids as well.

I don't know about the difference in wheel weight but the Rubicon's tires are heavier than the Sahara's.

Could we get a new title for the thread? Something a little less Buzzfeed clickbaity?

I'm surprised it's only a ~100 lb weight difference. Rubicon has rock sliders, bigger/heavier tires, bigger front and rear axle (in base spec), sway bar disconnect, locking diffs, and most significantly: more stickers.
