How do you pull the plug on a 7 pin hitch from the back? I dont want to break anything forcing it. Does it have a pin to depress or release the plug? Iam trying to pull it out and it wont budge. Thanks for the help.
It is just that one clip/area on the side that you firmly press in and then you have to wiggle, wiggle, fight, fight, pull it/yank it loose. How do you pull the plug on a 7 pin hitch from the back? Can you send your dad over my way lol? I can't, for the life of me, get mine to release. Any other tips/tricks other than unbolting the holder?Mine was a bear and after several tries, thinking I was gonna break the damn thing, I eventually asked my dear old dad to give it a try and he yanked it right off without any trouble at all.
So yeah, just ask someone that has no vested interest in not breaking your shit to give it a quick try ?
Just gave that a try, but the connector still won't budge. Thanks anyway. On my Denali the spring hinged cover also acts as a lock. It needs to be pulled open more to disengage.
I honestly have no idea how he did it without breaking anything. I tried by hand several different times at different times of the day, both cold and after a drive, thinking maybe the plastic expanded or contracted since it was built. Tried using handtools to pry and provide better outward leverage. Tried lifting the receptacle plug. Everything I tried literally felt like it was going to break the whole unit from the housing, which I could see bending and flexing. Can you send your dad over my way lol? Thanks for the feedback! I was also trying to remove it to install the Diode Dynamics LED pod. I've pretty much given up and decided I don't really need it and have boxed it back up.I honestly have no idea how he did it without breaking anything. Only thing I didn't try was adding some lubricant, but I'm not sure what would be safe for the plastic and the electrical connections, or if it would even help at all. Maybe just some Simple Green?
Once it was off, I didn't try plugging it back in to the OEM socket again, but it easily inserted and came back out of the Diode Dynamics socket quite easily, which inserted back into the OEM part pretty easily as well. Not 100% sure, but this leads me to believe the OEM latch just wasn't fully disengaging when pressed in. Think there was another thread where someone else had a stuck plug on their '23 and broke the latch while trying to remove it. I eventually tried handtools for that as well, using a flat-ended punch to try fully pushing in the latch, but it didn't seem to make a difference for me.
Best of luck!
Can't say I blame you. It's a neat product, but don't think it's worth the risk of potentially damaging the wiring or connectors of the $1,000 tow package (not any fault of DD, just something weird or different with the '23 Wranglers). Thanks for the feedback!
