Like many in this forum I’m stacking upgrades in my garage while I wait for delivery of my Jeep – JLUR XR. Checking to know if anyone has insights into Hammerhead bumpers?

I had settled in on a “DV8 Offroad Full Length Rear Bumper with LED Lights” (SKU RBJL-01).

Primary requirements:
  • Want full width
  • Work with factory tow hitch package
  • Work with factory sensors
  • License plate relocation and lighting
  • Work with 35” spare
  • I prefer the wraparound ends

Price is about right. Met the requirements with my only concern being that I would have to make an adjustment for the trailer plug receptacle because it appears hidden behind the bumper. And then – I got spooked. I’d read a lot about the finish chipping and had determined I could reluctantly live with that. The kicker was a video that showed the bumper flexing up and damaging the back Wrangler body corners when the bumper came down on a rock.

So I dug in again and found the “Jeep JL Rear Bumper Full Width for 18-Pres Wrangler JL Ravager Series Wrinkle Black Hammerhead Armour.” (SKU: 600-56-0784) Pretty much at the limit of my budget but it appears to meet all of my needs otherwise. Aside from Hammerhead I’m only finding a couple places that carry it online and don’t find much by way of reviews.

Thought I’d offer it out to the “knowers of many things” on this forum. Any insights?

I have the Ravager full width Front bumper, and want to pull the trigger on the matching rear one in the future, just don't have a need to drop another $1000 at the moment. I've had my Ravager front bumper for about 18 months, and still love it. There is a bit of powder coat chipping right on the edge of the circular portion of the fog light cutouts, but was easily covered with Rust-Oleum and a Q-Tip.

It's taken a few hard shots and held up well. I just installed their Pinch Weld Seam covers, and really like the way that looks, and I have the Ravager front skid plate sitting in my office at the moment. They are US made, which to me is a plus. I would not hesitate to recommend them as a company, but do not have direct experience with their rear Ravager full width bumper.

Buying from Hammerhead direct is more expensive, as they won't undercut their dealers. I've found three trustworthy (IMO) sites to buy them. Only CARiD has them in stock, the other two are build to order and factory drop shipped.

Thanks much for the feedback! Appreciated!

I'm all over the place on this. I'm retired and the whole jeep-thing is self indulgence so I need to be a little practical in my impracticality, and the Hammerhead is approaching my ceiling. I had a "duh" moment this week when I realized the Jeep class II receiver is not 2" and that is what I want. I was already looking at some extra $ for cube lights for the Hammerhead bumper. Now considering whether I want to also fork out money for a 2" receiver as well. Alternative might be to go with a Smittybuilt XRC which I like a little less but comes in at a much lower cost. I'll post back here when a decision is made.

It is also helpful to see your thoughts on bumpersuperstore. I liked their pricing, but was a little concerned with a review site that had tons of bad reviews on them. The BBB rating was much better.

Hmmm, are you sure about that, Shater? My factory hitch is a 2" receiver.

Actually, I'm not. Ordered my Rubicon in late January and it is in production limbo. They spec the tow package with a class II receiver. I've always dealt with class III receivers and not class II. I checked some sites like the Curt site https://www.curtmfg.com/types-trailer-hitches where they say the class II receiver is 1 1/4" vs. the 2" class III. Perhaps I need to look a little deeper.

Hey Paul, if you are still considering the Hammerhead Ravager rear bumper this may be an opportune time. They are having a moving sale this week with 20% off in stock items and free shipping. I just ordered this bumper.
