Half door chop?

Given the challenge finding factory half doors in the right color and/or locally, I'm curious if anyone has tried taking a full sized set of door and chopping them. There is a guy locally selling striped sets for $300 AND might even have one in the right color for me. Granted I'd still have to buy all the hardware and uppers, but that still feels like it might be cheaper/faster/easier than waiting for the right pair to come up, driving across the country to get them, and/or stripping and repainting them. Anybody do this, or am I off in left field??

I'm a firm believer, there's nothing that can't be done. Sometimes it comes down to, is it worth it? I believe there would be a significant amount of fabricating. To name a few on the exterior: Cutting, grinding, how thin the sheet metal is at the cut, then supporting it which might require cutting & fabricating metal, possibly welding. Sanding, prime & paint. The interior: window removed, trim removed, cut & remount it, or spray paint, bedliner. After market outside mirrors I guess. A lot of work, x2.

If you have the tools and skills to modify the doors yourself, it will be a fun and rewarding project. If you don’t, it will likely not be a cost effective solution.

Do you have to have the internals and all that? There are aftermarket doors like the Motobuilts if you are just looking for a trail door.

I'm not normally a fan of half doors but yeah, those are some good looking half doors. I like how they kept the factory mirror too.

Seeing it costs about what a set of Mopar doors does is helpful. I definately don't have the welding skills, but I've got a buddy who does...

They don't have anything other than the doors, part of why I am loosing interest in that particular avenue... I considered some other half door options, but its more for driving around town than it is on the trails. Main factor for me is that with 2 kids, the wife and grandmother's have expressed safety concerns over driving around with no doors, do half doors would still give me child locks (although I realized as I am typing this that I am assuming that and don't actually know that) and more protection. I do like the look of a jeep with half doors and the soft top down though, plus on my previous jeeps I liked that you could drive somewhere the the top and doors on, drop them once you got to your destination, but then still carry them with for when the afternoon rain storm popped up
