I put the grip tape on but it's scratching up my kids legs, so if you have kids, this isn't the best idea. I'm getting some side steps delivered next Monday and I bought some plastic door sill guards off Amazon. That should help but there's still a small section that the door sill guard isn't protecting. Maybe I'll put that clear 3M tape there if it's still necessary.

The exposed edge still bothers me.

It bothered me as well. I got some clear Xpel ppf on Amazon - it was a 2.75” x 60” door sill kit - to cover the remaining ~1” of exposed door sill edge and wrapped it down outside the door. See my earlier post in this thread. You can’t even tell it is there unless one looks super close. I used one full piece on the fronts between the seams in the metal, and used two separate pieces on the rears as the seam there falls in the middle of where a passenger would typically hit their feet getting in. Looks and works awesome and any scuff marks on the ppf seem easy to remove so far.

Definitely can't tell from the picture that it's there. Nice work. That'll be my next project.

Does anyone have any experience removing grip tape or some other adhesive after several years? Wondering if it has a tendency to take up the paint with it?

I just used the "GRIP TAPE" on my EXPOSED SLIDERS--because that's where it's gonna get slippery !

This tape/w a very strong adhesive will more than likely pull patch's of tape after years of installation--pros & cons-

Good luck
